I need help (re skin and acne)

I have been to see a dermatologist who has recommended roaccutane or Spironolactone for me acne on face, chest and back. The thing is I'm really anxious about these meds mainly because of the blood tests (have anxiety over them and usually feel sick, faint and panicky) also potential side effects. I am 40 and antibiotics/topical treatments haven't worked. I haven't tried the pill as hubby has had a vasectomy. Could that work? I was hoping the derm could just give me something without having to have all the blood tests.

What should I do?

PS my skin is really oily on my face and scarring. Also I'm wondering if any specialist facial treatments could help.

Have you tried the topical treatment Tretinoin (retinol)? As in, proper prescription strength stuff, not ones you can buy off the shelf? For a lot of people, that is a real game changer for acne, alongside products like Azelaic acid. Dermatologists can prescribe this face to face, or there are online subscription services where you will receive your product in the post every few weeks (I use Dermatica, there is also Skin+me).

Lots of people find that the contraceptive pill is very effective for acne treatment. I have never had dreadful skin, but it was certainly never better than when I was on Yasmin contraceptive pill. Sadly had to stop taking it due to stroke risk.

I understand your phobia completely. My dd had a course of roaccutaine and hates blood test, only passed out once. My dds skin is so clear now and it really helps with oil production to. Have you tried distraction techniques/listening to music? Most HCP are very aware of patients who have needle phobias and have techniques to deal with this.

@Twoweeksandcounting I'm using a prescription from Dermatica (have been for about 4 weeks), so far it's not doing much though. They've just given me Adapalene 0.1% and Niacinamide 4%

I would email them and request to change to tretinoin. Worst that can happen is they say no! Although to be fair it can take a good few weeks to notice changes.

Silver serum from Clarol. It's only available online and it worked within 2 weeks when I had cystic spots.
