Have my colposcopy tomorrow, what to expect?

I've been referred urgently. Referral happened within the 2 week mark. I don't have the best inmune system thanks to my anemia. So I'm already not the most hopeful. I should also be extremely low risk, was vaccinated, low number of partners (not that it warranties anything, but I've read that lowers the risk), have had almos yearly smears, and my body went from HPV positive to pre-cancer in 10 months. :(

You'll need to take some awful medicine to clear you out. If you havnt tried this yet, I make a big batch, room temp water, plus a pint of orange squash. I gulp a few mouthfuls of the awful stuff, then a few of the orange ( never blackcurrant or anything dark). Then dont leave your house!! The inevitable will happen. You'll be hungry by the time you get it done. I'd suggest sedation. It doesnt hurt but can nip when they blow air in to expand. Out of all the procedures I've had done, this was fairly easy. Worst bit was a very good looking surgeon talking about my piles. Couldve died.

Isn’t that a colonoscopy?

Sorry ignore my last..misread and thought you meant a colonoscopy!!
I've also had your procedure done too, albeit back in 2011 so not sure if anything has changed. I wasnt offered pain relief or sedation..it did hurt, not gunna lie but its over with quickly. My friend got hers last year and she was sedated and barely felt anything.

Yeah lol. Long day!!

I had this but quite a few years ago. The actual examination wasn’t too bad, similar to a smear but with my feet up in the stirrup contraption. I had some cells burned off, loop diathermy I think it was called? But I had local anaesthetic into the area first which made me shaky for a few minutes which is apparently normal!
It did get infected so needed antibiotics, but no problems since. I had more regular smears for a couple of years after but I’m back to 3 yearly now, and they have all been clear since.

Well at first the nurse should said that it was unlikely but would be anything. Then surprise, surprise... They definitely found abnormal cells, had a biopsy, and cauterisation. Now it's a waiting game :(

@Onlyrainbows how'd you get on? I hope you're ok?

I got my 2nd abnormal smear result yesterday and the letter stated I'd be called in for colposcopy ... that letter came today and appointment is this coming week - so trying not to freak out too much.

Onlyrainbows · 30/05/2022 11:47

I have CIN1 cells, so basically need to wait another year to see how it goes. I'm abroad at the moment, so will get a second opinion with a specialist in case the protocol is different over here.

I had a colposcopy today, without any kind of anaesthetic, and it was fine. I’m not the bravest so wrote to them beforehand to make clear that if they needed to do any treatment I would insist on a local anaesthetic. They agreed to this, but in the event I didn’t need it , ie the dr said everything looked okay and she didn’t need to do any treatment (my smear had also been normal). The dr was lovely , really gentle and explained everything. The only problem now is that I need a hysteroscopy to to be on the safe side . Would have got really stressed about this but she’s agreed I can have a general anaesthetic so I’m not worrying as much
