Security tag

Bought a dress and the bloody security tag is still on it. I've got the receipt but it's a right pain for me to go back into town (it's an hour round trip driving and then parking to pay too).

Has anyone has any success asking a different store to remove it (I'm thinking of my local Asda) or am I going to have to suck it up and go back to the shop

They aren’t obliged to and may refuse to

But if you’re saving yourself a longer trip and are going to your local Asda anyway then you have not lost anything by asking

As well as their willingness or unwilllngness to do so there is the matter of what tagging system is in use and whether theirs is the same or close enough to fit

There is an abundance of videos on YouTube etc on how to remove security tags at home, which range from using high powered magnets to brute force.
Be aware that it is likely to just be a magnet system, but could include security dyes that will permanently stain if it goes wrong

Two things can go wrong with brute force - a dye capsule is released or you rip the dress

You can remove it yourself with a knife but I did once get sainsburys to remove one for me when I didn’t buy the dress from there so you can ask!

Use two forks , back to back, either side of the tag to lever it apart. There is a youtube video showing how.

I've seen a few posts about this on my local FB page recently, loads of recomendations to take item to local Sainburys or similar with receipts as they have been happy to ablige in the past.

Thanks all, I think I'll try my local supermarket first and then if not go into town. Just a right old pain!!

I've recently done this by melting it with a lighter and then forcing it off with a fork!

I may wait and do that if I'm desperate but I really like the dress and don't want to damage it!!!

Try smacking it really hard on something first. The magnets in my old job often used to balls up and stop removing tags: a sharp smack to the counter often burst them open. Once, I punched one open in frustration (it had happened multiple times that day), which I don't recomend as it split my knuckle, but did work! (And surprised the customer to say the least!)

I've done it using forks and a lighter. Really easy. Just need to get past the smell of burning plastic! Videos on YouTube.

I took a top from asda to tesco and they took the tag off for me - didn't even ask to see the receipt! I was surprised, and very relieved, I only noticed when I put it on to go out.

Whoop I popped to Sainsbury's and asked and they removed it! Definitely worth a try and saved me heading into town
