Not washing these body parts?

It occurred to me yesterday that I have only ever washed my feet with soap on vert rare occasions like when I’ve walked on grass or got them grubby in flip flops. Other times I just let the water wash them from the shower or Bath.

Similarly, I don’t think I’ve ever washed my neck or behind my ears, for the same reasons - shampoo surely covers it when I wash my hair?

The magazine I read was talking about the benefits of using less soap and sometimes only water to rinse to give skin a break. I rarely scrub anywhere with soap except my underarms, chest, breasts and carefully with bits below. Anyone else?

I can smell when people haven't washed behind their ears if I get close to them (eg a hug). It's gross. Wash behind your ears!

Necks get grimy and grey with visible dirt if they are not washed.

Wash your feet...

I agree. I currently have restrictions on my movement, not allowed to bend more than 90 degrees at the hip. Being unable to wash my feet properly is seriously freaking me out, shower or not.

I have to scrub my feet with a pumice otherwise they get hard dry skin and get really itchy. I I think if I didn’t clean my neck it would feel manky after a day, and have you ever rubbed behind your ear after a particularly sweaty day? Yours must honk.

But they are washed... water followed by soap/shampoo followed by more water.

They're just not actively "scrubbed/flanneled/whatever."

Letting soapy water run over things isn’t the same as cleaning them though. A cup isn’t cleaned by just letting soapy water run over it, so why do people think this applies to their own personal hygiene?

Could you get something like this to help?

Apart from under my arms I never use soap or shower gel anywhere as it makes me itch. I don't smell at all. I never have since I was about 8.

How many of us have now rubbed behind our ears to see if they smell? Grin

I stand in a soapy bowl of water most days and wash my face, neck, ears, under arms and then the nether regions. Twice a week I have a shower to wash my hair and all over from head to toe. I am retired if that makes a difference.

Pretty much the same as you OP, only recently I take a little bit more effort to do behind my ears.

I'm the same as the OP, I assume my feet get washed from the soapy suds and water spray. I pay v good attention to bits and pits and obviously my face, I probably wash and exfoliate that too much.

I'm on the fence about behind the ears, I don't think I pay particular attention to that area but I have long wavy hair which takes ages to wash so I'm assuming (hoping) that all the shampoo suds that gather there while I'm washing and then rinsing my hair must surely be enough Grin

Pretty sure a cup in a shower with first pressured water sprayed all over, then a hand running soap over, then again pressured water for a few minutes would be clean to be fair! Bit like a powerhose in the garden.

Long handled brush is what I use ,I also have similar issues.

If you don't wash your feet because the water does it anyway in a shower, then do you only wash what sits above the waterline in the bath? Don't wash your bum?

I wash everywhere in the evening. I wash my face with a flannel with face wash. Then I use a bar of soap, rubbed into wash gloves, and wash EVERYWHERE even my belly button. When I’m out of the shower, I use lots of coconut oil mixed with lavender oil all over me as well before bed.

In the morning, I only wash my pits and bits with soap then use the flannel I wash using shower gel EVERYWHERE again

The backs of my ears get scrubbed in the course of washing my hair. I wash every other bit of my body properly in a daily shower, including in between my toes. You should definitely be washing (and properly drying) in between your toes.

I read on here once about a woman who never washed her bottom (as in bumhole area) just let the water run over it. Still shudder at that! Washing smelly feet almost in the same category.

Feet I agree in that if I know they're dirty then yes they get a "real" wash. But especially during sock weather then a soak in the bath/shower I feel is plenty.

Once it's bare feet/flip flops/sandals then they get more attention.

But my neck gets washed twice a day (when's my face does) as even though I'm mid 30s I still get spots on it.

Behind/in my ears is every other day with a hair wash.

I don't understand why not being able to bend more than 90 degrees is an issue, don't you bend your legs at the knee and then lift your foot up to wash it rather than bending down like you are touching your toes? Or if that's too difficult sit in the bath and bend your leg so you can reach your foot to wash it? Or even sit on a chair with your feet in a basin and lift your foot up to wash.

You’re assuming everyone has a power shower firstly (which is absolutely not comparable to a jet wash). And, other PPs have said they just allow the soapy water to wash over them.

I would not drink out of a cup that had been rubbed with someone’s hands and soap, you need an abrasive material to dislodge dirt, nor would I eat off the floor after a jet wash. The same as I wouldn’t go into public without cleaning myself properly. But we all have different hygiene standards I suppose.

I'm the same as you but i do have a bath a couple of times a week as well. The only time I'd make a point of washing my feet was if i'd been running in the wet and mud and it had gone through to my feet.

If you don't scrub behind your ears, you'll get potatoes growing there. Surely everyone knows that?

If we are power washing and running soap over with out hands is that not washing? That's not letting the old soapy water wash your feet?

I do always wash my feet with a scrubby thing and soap. Personally there's 3 key washing areas, bits pits and feet. Plus your feet are so far away from the shower they are just getting water dribble over them which isn't going to clean them

I have no idea how anyone can smell if someone hasn't washed behind their ears! How would you even know that's what your smelling? 😃

I always wash my feet. Being stuffed into shoes all day and not washing is surely a breeding ground for fungal infections!

I'm like you OP and just let water run over - never had a fungal infection!

Isn't it a bit like just swishing toothpaste round your mouth without actually brushing them?
