Away from home - forgot asthma inhaler

Wise ones of MN - I’m sure someone will know the answer to this (Google was useless).

I am away from home for a few days, currently on the train. I’ve just realised I’ve left my inhaler on my desk at home. It’s a Fostair maintenance and reliever and I usually take several puffs a day.

I assume there must be some way for me to get one while I am away? Would a pharmacy be able to help even though I don’t have a prescription with me? There’s no way I will manage without it.

I’ve been in this situation before (asthma attack in the street) and was handed one by a pharmacist adter some paperwork was completed

My surgery could give me a repeat prescription and change the designated pharmacy to one where I was staying. I went to a local pharmacy and they told me to ring my surgery and ask.them to do this. They wouldn't make any guarantees but I got my medication the same day. I'd go.to the nearest pharmacy when they open and check if this will work for you. Obviously it's dangerous to be without your inhaler so.im sure they'll help you find a way.

You can get a prescription from most walk in centres, although there may be a wait involved. An increasing number of pharmacists are also able to prescribe

A friend was in this situation and 111 were able to sort a prescription and have it sent to a pharmacy.

tiredanddangerous · 09/05/2022 06:24

Yes call 111 and they should be able to sort it

FawnFrenchieMum · 09/05/2022 06:27

I once left my DS’s at home, we walked into a pharmacy and explained, they sorted out an emergency prescription. As others have said, 111 can organise it too.

persephone19 · 09/05/2022 06:35

Call your surgery - they can send a prescription anywhere in England and Wales

PrincessRamone · 09/05/2022 07:10

Thanks all. I’ll try a pharmacy once I get off the train. I’m already getting a bit wheezy having missed my morning dose. If I don’t have any luck there then I’m try a walk in centre.

My son had a similar problem. Our gp faxed a px to a local pharmacy the same day. If your gp is helpful it is easy. If not, call 111.

Beachhuts90 · 09/05/2022 11:00

Do you have the NHS app? Your history of prescriptions shows up there, you may be able to request a refill to a local place.

HalloHello · 09/05/2022 11:03

Don't bother calling 111. Any pharmacy will be able to call your GP and check your records and dispense one for you.
