Reusable tampon applicators for super plus extra/super ultra tampons/extra heavy flow

Whyismycatanasshat · 09/05/2022 00:56

Do these even exist?
Is anyone able to recommend a reusable applicator for those of us who need to use the super plus ultra/super heavy flow tampons?
Both Lillets and Dame applicators are only suitable for use with (up to) super tampons which really aren’t sufficient for me!
As my stocks of lillets with plastic applicators are rapidly dwindling, and despite many years of trying I can’t use non-applicators, I really need a solution!

Wish I had a solution. DD is also on her last couple of boxes of Lilets, she uses a cup at home but at school it's not an option.

Bump bump bump!!!

Not sure if I'm missing something, are these no good?

It's what I use.

Tampax just don't work for DD (or me for that matter, I never know why they are so popular). The issue was wanting an applicator that works with superplus Lilets.

Whyismycatanasshat · 09/05/2022 09:07

@Myshitisreal Lillets do a higher absorbency and expand sideways much more than those tampax - I do use the orange tampax you’ve linked but flood with them on the heavy days, Lillets do the job when required - I actually prefer Tanpax
but needs must!

Are (disposable) cardboard applicators not an option?

Whyismycatanasshat · 09/05/2022 09:31

@Catabogus Invariably the really high absorbency ones are non applicator only. And for me personally, they don’t sit right without an applicator shove - trust me, I’ve tried to get the right fit for over 20 years!

As an aside, do the cardboard ones have a bit more substance to them? I had to use them as a teen and they’d go soggy and wouldn’t park the tampon where it needed to be. The Teen years weren’t great.

For me Lilets are the only tampons which don’t leak.

I can’t imagine why they couldn’t produce an applicator for the largest sizes.

so many of us have heavy periods.

Lookingoutside · 09/05/2022 09:32

Could someone tweet Lilets and ask?

Whyismycatanasshat · 09/05/2022 09:53

@Lookingoutside That would be great; I don’t have Twitter but I will email them.
I think they’ve missed an opportunity with not making them for all sizes.
My life would be on hold for 48-72 hours every month as I use their highest absorbency and a towel in order to leave the house for 4 hours or complete a morning or afternoons teaching!

Can you save the plastic disposable ones you have left to wash and reuse in the interim?

Unless they're made in such a way that you can't pull the plunger back out?

Catabogus · 09/05/2022 10:48

The shiny cardboard ones have always worked well for me (including with super plus). But I’m not sure whether Lillets do them.

Whyismycatanasshat · 09/05/2022 10:55

@Catabogus It looks like Lillets don’t do any applicator tampon in the high absorbency range; just non-applicator. Seems a little short sighted of them.
I’m going to email them.

Watching with interest. Please update if you get any response from lillets, OP.
I'm a user of the "Ultra" size (perimenopause... like bloody Niagara Falls!) and back problems are making it difficult for me to use them now.

An applicator would help enormously.

MenaiMna · 09/05/2022 12:08

Try DAME reusable anti-microbial tampon applicator?

LowbrowVictoriana · 09/05/2022 12:14

MenaiMna · 09/05/2022 12:08

Try DAME reusable anti-microbial tampon applicator?

That doesn't manage the largest sizes, unfortunately, only up to super plus.

LittleMy77 · 09/05/2022 12:20

Watching too with interest! My lillet applicator supply is now down to virtually zero, I understand they’re removing them due to the plastic. I’d take paper at this point, as theirs are the only product that work well for peri menopausal gushing…

Whyismycatanasshat · 09/05/2022 13:39

I Have emailed both Lillets and Dame; the responses are similar, thanks for the feedback, it’s something we’re thinking of on the future.
Lillets did say they think some users are managing to use the applicator with super plus extra non applicator tampons but I’ve not had any success…. I also asked them about cardboard applicators in the larger absorbency range but they didn’t answer that.

In the interests of science, I have ordered a TOTM reusable applicator from Superdrug this morning. The advertisement does not mention size limitations.

aharddaysnight · 09/05/2022 13:48

I have regularly used the DAME reusable applicator with Lillets Ultra tampons, I didn't know they weren't supposed to be compatible.

LowbrowVictoriana · 09/05/2022 13:59

So, non-responses basically @Whyismycatanasshat !
The Dame website uses the phrase "period-havers" so such idiocy which puts me off them anyway.

Let us know how you get in with the TOTM one, OP.

Whyismycatanasshat · 09/05/2022 14:02

@aharddaysnight oh really? They don’t seem to release from the applicator for me! Like the plunger is too short; the Lillets one is better in that respect but a poor fot
for the tampon size… oh the joys.

There are re useable applicators, I've seen them talked about on here before .

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/05/2022 14:16

OP if you google, there are a few options ,one by DAME which is in Sainsbury.

Whoopstheregomybloomers · 09/05/2022 14:31

Placemarking! Glad I'm not the only one with this issue. Do please let us know how you get on with the TOTM one, OP.

summerdrinks · 09/05/2022 14:32

I know this is trying something new but have you tried a menstrual cup. I have heavy periods and converted to one about a year ago - I've not looked back.
