Domestic flight in UK/expired passport

Need to fly to Scotland in July, passport expired 2018; I'm worried due to current delays - as are many others of course - but this is an internal flight in the UK. Easy Jet say just use your old passport if its expired in the last 5 years (booked outward flight). British Airways (booked return flight) say they know its not a legal requirement but they reckon I will be dragged through the airport screaming if I don't have a valid passport. I don't have a photo driving licence before anyone asks.

Should I risk it and send off for a new one or should I risk it and hold on to my old one?

Personally, I’d hold on to that one, but there’s no guarantee either way. Emailing the enquiry might help pin them down.

following- I also thought it was just photographic ID required

You could apply for a photo driving license, possibly quicker and definitely cheaper than a new passport. Even a provisional license is valid ID for a domestic flight. Which airline?

I don’t have any photographic ID, you need a passport to get a driving licence, airlines involved are in OP. Also I have emailed BA they just keep saying you need photographic ID despite me saying I don’t have it.

Oh hang on Just reading about a driving licence - its a faff but might be feasible; shall I start a new thread asking how long driving licences are taking?! 😬

If you need current photographic ID, a citizen card might suit you better:

If its a renewal passport then it should take less time doing online than a paper driving licence application which seem to be taking forever

Ds's passport renewal recently took 3 weeks to come back.

I’m never had to show ID on a BA domestic flight. Only if checking in luggage.

Zingy123 · 09/05/2022 08:42

Driving licenses are taking a minimum of 13 weeks.

VanCleefArpels · 09/05/2022 08:44

Just been to Scotland and back no one asked for ID . Never have done.

Waterdropsdown · 09/05/2022 08:49

Someone else has mentioned it - are you checking luggage. No one will
ask for ID unless checking in luggage (certainly on BA, I haven’t flown internal easyJet for a few years).

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 09/05/2022 09:56

I took an internal flight to Glasgow last month. Didn't have to show ID once.

Discovereads · 09/05/2022 09:59

I also had to fly to Edinburgh due to the train strikes in March, didn’t have to show any ID at all. I had taken my passport and had my covid travel digital passport as well, just in case but all they cared about was my boarding pass. I did check in online.

As others have said, if you're not checking luggage they won't check Id.
They do with ba at least if you are checking luggage though.

ReviewingTheSituation · 09/05/2022 10:07

I've flown to Scotland (EDI and GLA) 3 times in the last couple of months (from BHX) - had photo ID on me but wasn't asked for it on any leg of the journey, on any trip.

StaplesCorner · 09/05/2022 16:40

Thanks all. No luggage. I’ve flown to Scotland pre covid and never shown ID either but it all seems to have gotten very serious with airlines since. Thread has really helped so much appreciated.
