Prosecco or Cocktail ladies night.

I help run a social club. We need suggestions to make it viable to run.
Covid hit us hard. We are getting a few private parties and even a few
weddings, baby showers and funerals.
This is a town without a night club. There is about 70k people that live here.
One of the ideas is to have a ladies night. But not with male strippers as there
used to be in the 1980's.
Would you go to a ladies cocktail disco (other drinks available)
Last orders are midnight.
If not what other nights would you attend.
We already have bingo. Small offices rent out the concert room during the day
for training or seminars.
For the gentlemen it's been suggested after dinner speakers.
Suggestions are welcome for ladies and Men.

Forgot to mention that one (male) committee member has come up with the idea of a
Divorced and Separated evening have you ever attended one. What were your impressions. Were they as tacky as it sounds or are the rest of us being fuddy duddy.
(The committee are made up of men and women aged between 40 and 70)

Yes I'd definitely go to a ladies cocktail night.

Bunce1 · 08/05/2022 17:50

Pizza and Prosecco quiz night- this is a winner in my local town.

£15 for one glass of Prosecco and a pizza of your choice. Quiz is free. Usually mostly women but some mixed groups.

family barn dance night with a caller

Bimster · 08/05/2022 17:51

I wouldn't go to a ladies' cocktail disco.

I would go to a ceilidh night.

WaterBottle123 · 08/05/2022 17:54

So the women get insipid Prosecco night whilst the serious and intelligent men get after dinner speakers?

I would never attend a venue that thought so little of women, no.

Antarcticant · 08/05/2022 17:56

I'd go to a real ale/craft beer night.

I'd rather have a prosecco night than listen to an after dinner speaker drone on.

If your concert room is big enough, could a choir rehearse there and socialise in the bar afterwards? You get room hire and bar sales. Is there any storage space available?

Lots of people now working from home. Locally to me there's a Facebook group that organises get togethers - people welcome an opportunity to work in a shared workspace from time to time, have a coffee and something to eat.

Canvass opinion locally on Facebook, contact local groups, etc.

HelloIneedhelp · 08/05/2022 18:02

@WaterBottle123 this is why I've asked for suggestions for ladies evenings.
If you want an after dinner speaker what sort of subjects do you want to hear about.
Give me ideas for a good night out. Whether it's for single sex or couples.
The speakers for men are about sports mainly cricket, rugby and football.
Some who turn up think that there will be adult entertainment as well.

I can’t think of anything worse than a Ladies Night. I would absolutely not attend.

Ponderingwindow · 08/05/2022 18:06

I still don’t get to go anywhere crowded because of Covid, but I hope to get to go out again some day. The things on my list to try are

pub quiz night
knitting group, preferably someplace we can order drinks and snacks
ukulele club, again, at a place with drinks and snacks would be ideal

The first 2 actually exist in my larger city. The 3rd exists, but without the drinks, they meet In a village hall recreation room.

im not your typically party person though. I have social anxiety so I like having an activity with my socializing.

Belledan1 · 08/05/2022 18:07

Cocktail night with 80s disco would go down well. You could even look at a tribute band but suppose that would be alot to pay out initially

Fireleap · 08/05/2022 18:09

For the gentlemen it's been suggested after dinner speakers.

I think you need some new blood on your committee, it all sounds a bit 1980's.

In all seriousness, what is the demographics on your community?

Lots of young children? Toddler rave?
Lots of young adults? Dance classes/ craft groups

ExtraordinaryBehaviour · 08/05/2022 18:09

Pilates and prosecco. If go to that

HelloIneedhelp · 08/05/2022 18:15

Some good ideas please keep them coming.
Re a tribute act we have on our committee a member of a 70's band.
Don't think he'd be recognisable nowadays.

I don't understand why you're having separate women's evenings and men's evenings. Can you not just have evenings? Anyone wants to hear someone speak about cricket can go to that, and anyone who wants to drink Prosecco can go to that. Maybe that is putting people off? It sounds incredibly 1970s.

That said, I second a craft beer evening that someone else mentioned. Maybe some live music.

edwinbear · 08/05/2022 18:21

Can you hire a screen/projector and show some films? Or a virtual races night? Casino night? Murder Mystery evening where people dress up depending on the era?

SomePeopleAreJustIdiots · 08/05/2022 18:22

Prosecco is 2019
all about the limoux /cremant

jugs of cocktails also Wetherspoons are money makers - very little spirits

Collardgreens · 08/05/2022 18:22

A film night where you get to order in takeaways.

A reading group ☺️.

This.

I've already stated that I want suggestions for single sex or couples evenings.

Murder mystery sounds fun. Will have to find out about a race night re gambling
rules in the constitution of the club.

A plant evening, with plant experts and the chance to buy plants. The recent post about plants being the equivalent of chocolate at the checkouts is true.
Especially if people can bring their problem plant/ ask specific questions (why is Mt rambling rose not flowering!!)
If you could get refreshments wine all the better

Bathroom2022 · 08/05/2022 18:35

I just want to dance.

But people who are not in a couple might not want to attend single sex events / couples might not want to attend with their partner! I think the pp was just trying to point out that you put on an interesting event and don't worry about the sex of the attendees!

Peeeas · 08/05/2022 18:40

P.s. toddler rave / craft based evening with nibbles and drinks / comedy night. Would happily attend these either in a mixed group or with other women.
