Hi all would really appreciate some advise.

yesteday I woke with a terrible throat, thought nothing of it, got steadily worse.

Today I’ve got a sore chest everything I breathe in and a cough that could wake the dead. My eyes are also sore when I open them and I feel rather sick.

ive take three Covid tests and all negative and I’m now running a temperature of 38.5-39.5. I feel terrible like a weight on my chest and head.

shall I get myself checked out? Or see how I go? Im unsure and on the fence. Don’t want to waste anyone’s time. It’s just come on so suddenly.

111 have said I need a call back but likely not till early Hours

thoughts?

A&E I don't think could really do much and dragging yourself up there to sit for hours waiting probably won't do you any good.

I'd personally wait for the call back and see if they can prescribe you any antibiotics as it sounds like you may have a chest infection with flu or something.

unless you are genuinely struggling to breathe, stick with 111.
stay home, paracetamol.
plenty of liquids

Thanks all

yeah I did swab throat as well as nose- which makes the whole thing even more bizarre!

It sounds like flu to me. People have it pegged as a bad cold but it isn't. Flu makes you feel like death warmed over. Or possibly strep throat?

Hope you feel better soon.

OP I’m no expert but I do know someone who lost limbs because of a horrible flu like illness which ended up being sepsis. She nearly died so please check if you have sepsis symptoms and if so call an ambulance. I guess 111 would have already done that if they were worried though. So if you have new symptoms since you called them please call them back.

I'm just getting over what you are describing. No thermometer to check my temperature but have definitely had one.

Was fine last Saturday, woke up on Sunday thinking I had been hit by a bus. Pounding headache, blocked nose which ran constantly, sneezing, pain around the eyes and nose, tight chest and it all culminated in me losing my voice on Wednesday. I tested but was negative so dragged myself to work on Tuesday (which was my worst day). Since Thursday I have felt better but still no voice.

So 4 days of feeling horrendous but am now coming out the other side except for the pain in my sinuses. Will leave that for a few more days before I phone the doctor.

I was cold at night and went to bed wearing so many clothes it was laughable. Wednesday night I seemed to sweat it out as I woke up completely drenched but think that was the start of getting better.

I would say I had flu rather than a cold but always thought with flu you were bedridden?

I have mainlined paracetamol and ibuprofen all week which have helped me get through plus early nights and lots of fluids.

Hope you feel better soon and it doesn't manifest itself into anything more.
