Pros:

  • Good commute location for both me (London) and dh (Oxford)

  • Done up and easy to live in

  • Good local school for future kids

  • Nice road

  • Good to get in on housing market now before everything goes pear shaped with recession etc predicted for autumn and inflation at 11% (and a lot of our assets are cash right now)

  • V little selection on the market right now and this is the nicest modern house we’ve seen of this style

Cons:

  • Done up cheaply when seen in real life

  • Possibly over priced - everything v pricy right now. Other houses on this road recently sold for ~£600k and this is £695

  • V boring house! We’re drawn to cute (but possibly impractical) cottages that are usually too expensive for our budget

  • Possibly buying top of the market and stuck indefinitely if there is a crash soon?

  • Its been done up/extended and is now the nicest house on the street so possibly hard to sell on for this location?

  • Suburban location / look and would love more countryside

  • Dont know local town and how friendly ppl are. Really want local friends.

Twyford has THE BEST community. And that is a lovely road. Brilliant schools both in walking distance. I would!

Twyford is overpriced at the moment as there is virtually nothing coming onto the market. Woodley doesn’t compare; you can walk to a main line station in Twyford, with fast trains to Paddington. The Paddock Heights house is ex council and hugely overpriced. I’d look at Caversham or Thame. Wokingham is nice but slow train to Waterloo and hopeless for Oxford as you’d need to change at Reading. How about Maidenhead?

Those of you shocked at the price need to look at prices in north Oxford! There are 2 bed terraces on for £700k+!

And there are 5 bed detached houses with land not far outside Oxford. This is why OP should consider a slightly longer commute

I meant houses for less, obviously Smile

I lived in London for ten years so I'm not easily shocked at house prices. But 700k for a bog-standard semi-d with one bathroom and tiny bedrooms seems absolutely insane to me! It makes me very glad I left the UK years ago!
