Sorry for maybe a stupid question ..
Asking for DS , He agreed I should ask here !!

DS is in USA at the moment .(uni placement)
He has a ,,obviously USA cheque to cash.,put in an account.

Can he cash it there at a post office type of place ...or can he put it in his UK bank account when he gets a ( in a few weeks)
I know the answer must be obvious,,but I just don't want him to loose this money .
Thank you .

Why can’t he cash it there? The issuing bank will usually swap for cash.

And I know it is lose ,,,not loose...
Just my phone didn't !!

The fees for this outside the US are insane. He needs to work it out there.

Reallyreallyborednow · 06/05/2022 18:32

I’d take it to a bank and ask.

if not does he have a facility on his banking app to take a photo and deposit that way?

CactusFlowers · 06/05/2022 18:33

How much is it for? He can probably pay it into his U.K. account (check his bank website) but there may be fees which will eat into the cash.

@Ducksinthebath that was what we wanted to know thank you .
Yes , he is there for another 3 weeks. He could find a branch and just change it up .
( That would help him with his travel costs !)

I used to live in the US and you could cash cheques (or checks as they spell it) in places called currency exchanges. I also think that Walmart has this service. Of course there is a fee for this. I never personally used one as we had a bank account.

Americans use cheques a lot. Lots of people don’t have bank accounts

I had to pay a US cheque into a UK bank about five years ago and that was an absolute nightmare. None of the bank accounts I have would take it. Eventually, the company that issued it agreed to do a direct transfer, but it took so long to sort out. I’d definitely recommend trying to find a way to get it sorted in the US, rather than here.
