Baby Shower

Hi, I'm going to a bay shower but these weren't a thing when I had my kids, and this is the first I've been invited to. What are the general expectations, do you take a card, a gift, anything else? Don't want to get it wrong!

A card and gift :)

Thanks! Silly question...do you get special baby shower cards?

I'm just frantically Googling for the same thing. My first baby shower invite and I'm struggling - Don't want to hijack the thread but those Mum's who had a baby shower - What did you hope to get as a gift?

I didn't have one but if I ever go to one I usually do a little box of wipes, nappy cream, bibs/cloths and general things they can use when the baby is here.

Card factory do baby shower cards.

I never had one but have given the below;
Muslins
Clothes (older age)
Baby towel
Books
Toiletries
Pram toy for when abit older

doistayordoigo · 06/05/2022 18:29

I've bought some brighter coloured all-in-one sleepsuits aged 6-9 months, as I remember having too many young baby clothes. Was hoping to get some muslin squares (or sicky cloths as we called them!) but haven't found any yet. I did wonder about a box of chocolates as a gift for the parents rather than the baby?

You could always politely decline.

Gift for the parents if you do go seems better to me.

HolyMoly22 · 06/05/2022 18:37

Always got mine and other peoples Muslins from asda! Loved them!

If your wanting something for the parents a JustEat voucher! We got a couple and they were so handy for the first couple of weeks being back home

doistayordoigo · 06/05/2022 18:53

Why would I decline?

JustEat vouchers are a good idea Smile

I've never had a baby shower but yes to takeaway vouchers! Or nice toiletries like Child's Farm.

Moonshine5 · 06/05/2022 19:23

OP People usually have a gift list for more formal Baby Showers. What did the invite say?

Moonshine5 · 06/05/2022 19:25

Otherwise John Lewis / Marks & Spencer / Next etc gift vouchers are useful

I’m not actually sure if you can get baby shower cards but just a congratulations one would be fine if not :)

doistayordoigo · 07/05/2022 10:18

Not a formal event I don't think, invite was by text and it's being held at a family member's house Smile

I've always wondered if you attend a baby shower, are you also expected to provide another gift once baby is born?

I went to one recently and bought a small pamper hamper for the mum to be with a bunch of flowers. When baby was born, I then gave a baby gift. No idea if that is the done thing or not though? And yes, I have been baby shower cards available.

HSKAT · 07/05/2022 11:16

@MarmiteCoriander It's a hard one isn't jt!
Sometimes I've gave some babygrows when visiting but tend to give flowers to the new mum
