Steriliser?

Stardust2022 · 04/05/2022 21:47

Hi I'm expecting Twins in 13 weeks! Anyway getting things together. We did have a steriliser gifted to us, we tested it last week-well it has had to be scraped! Been researching and now stuck between a Milton one or a UV one. Granted the UV is very expensive but seems like a brilliant time saver or would cold water be better? Grateful for any advice thank you

I bloody loved my cold water steriliser - I recommend it to everyone. I still dunk my kids school bottles in periodically (they're 6yrs & almost 4yrs now) as well as their munchkin 360 cups (perfect size for breakfast fruit juice with the added bonus of not spilling down their uniforms!)
Although, with my youngest we used the MAM bottles which you can sterilise individually in the microwave which was handy but any tupperware tub with a lid that was big enough to hold a dismantled bottle was handy to take when travelling to see family as I'd only take one bottle, wash then sterilise after use to save a little room in the many bags we'd end up taking 🤣

we have the tommee tippee UV steriliser and it has been brilliant! A real time saver and seems to be less faff than some others. The only thing that I would say would be to check capacity for using with twins to make sure it will be big enough for your needs. Good luck!! 😀

Love cold water sterilising. So handy that bottles stay sterile for 24 hours in the Milton!
I haven’t used anything else but my friend started off with a microwave steriliser but quickly switched to Milton cold water as she was frugal.
BTW Milton tabs are more cost effective than the liquid Milton but no difference in their sterilising effectiveness.

I much preferred the Milton. Just make it with fresh water and a tablet every morning and that's you for the day. Milton also do travel containers and mini tablets for dummies which are great if they take a dummy so you dont need to worry about it if you drop the one you leave the house with!

Mum of twins here! Tupperware box (large), cold water and Milton tablets was ideal for us. used Mam bottles previously bought for our older child (plus a few new ones) and microwaved once we were going through less a day!

best tip is to invest in those little pots where you can pre measure power - having them full for the morning saves a lot of faffing when there’s two bottles to be made. Oh, and a perfect prep upstairs and downstairs! (Second hand or borrowed)

no idea what uv sterilising is!

i a UV is a new addition, I have only just heard of it this year. It sterilises using light, no water or chemicals x

I have the Nuby UV one and I love it. I wash the bottles and let them air dry and then put them in there dry for three minutes and it's done! If you're formula feeding Nuby had a sale on their UV steriliser and Rapidcool (can make milk to NHS recommendations and they be cool in 3/3
4 minutes) bundle.

I used a steam steriliser as I didn't like the idea of using chemicals.

I don't know if there as been any research done of ingesting small amounts of it that's left on the bottles and gut bacteria so I didn't want to take the chance.
