Turkey - how to dress when going out?

Hello, so we finally booked holidays for July! I am so excited and can't wait. We'll be based in 5star hotel near Marmaris. I know the area might not be the best but after 2 years of Covid we looked for a place that's bit louder and lots going on.

However, I'm worried about too uch attention from men. (I'm traveling with my soon to be husband.) Did you dress anyhow differently when outside the hotel? Any tips and advice would be helpful 💐

In somewhere like Marmaris you can (within reason) where what you like. Don't wear anything you wouldn't go out in at home (don't walk down the street in a bikini!) but you really really don't need to cover your head, arms, legs etc. Dress for the weather! Shorts, dresses, t-shirts, vest tops all fine. If your partner is with you you'll likely be left alone, and the VAST majority of men will leave you alone if you say so!

You'll get loads of people along in a minute to say they were harassed constantly and turkey is awful - but for me it's one of the loveliest places you can go. I say this as something who has spent time living there and had a long term relationship with a Turk 😊😊

We went to Bodrum quite a few years ago and I agree with above. I wasn't a fan of Turkey and probably wouldn't go again but nothing to do with the men. I wouldn't walk around the streets in bikini top but tbf I probably wouldn't do that anywhere. Happily wear short shorts though a vest top of bikini top.

If you go to markets then yes you can expect to be harassed and the same with some smaller shops, not sexually though just in general because they expect you to barter and buy from them.

I have been to Egypt a few times also and was pretty much the same there. Was warned that men would be all over dsd as she was blonde etc but nope. People generally lovely - they rely on tourists, so want to make a good impression on you. A few may try to joke if they think it will entice you to buy but a look that suggests that you don't find it funny is plenty

Honestly I would expect more unwanted attention in bars in spain and cyprus than the likes of Turkey, of course there are a few idiots - same as anywhere.

Have a lovely holiday!

Didn't immediately understand your heading - was thinking, little paper frills on the legs?

@Iamclearlyamug @finalpunt - thanks ver much for sharing your thoughts. I'm pleased to know that there's no need for any different clothing so will happily wear summer clothes I have already (might use it as an excuse to buy a couple new summer dresses though) 💐

@Bloodybridget - haha, you made me laugh 😅 well, never know - I might need to dress up a turkey for some fancy dinner one day!

A nice big silk scarf is useful esp as it's so hot and can protect you, also can be adaptable

@finalpunt , on a visit to Egypt with dh and 2 early 20s dds - one very blonde - we had absolutely no hassle when dh was with us.
It was a very different matter if we went out without him!

*Luxor/Valley of the Kings, not beach - whether that would make a difference I don’t know.

I can imagine Luxor was very different (I would have loved to have gone but at time couldn't travel there), in fairness we went to sharm 1 year and also have been to hurgharda. Both at very large complexes but we did go out to local shops.
