Hi can anyone help me out. I receive PIP and it was coming to an end in June this year. They sent me forms out in January to make a claim again I have been assessed and have been awarded payment again. My question is will this be back dated

Has your award increased? It will be paid from the date that it was awarded so no back pay afaik

Vs2914 · 03/05/2022 10:18

Yes my award has increased I was just so confused as some people have said the deference will be back dated and some saying it won't be x

It'll normally only be backdated if it's a new claim - have a look at a1 benefits on Facebook - they're really helpful and have lots of advisors that can answer queries

The award letter should tell you the date that the increased award applies from. I would not expect it to be backdated beyond when the decision was made.

This was like making a new claim all over again. It wasn't a review of my current award I had to phone them to make a claim got my how your disability affects you form sent out then had a telephone assessment it's so confusing 😕

It will be backdated to the date you opened the new claim

@Vs2914 may i ask how long it took from sending your form back to a decision? and was it all paperbased just i’m waiting for the same thing

Vs2914 · 05/05/2022 15:56

@SBParker99 I sent the forms back in February had a telephone assessment in april then 4 weeks later got my decision. Have fingers crossed for you it can be a very long draining process

I know you're not asking me but I started my first claim in October 2021 and my assessment only just took place a couple of weeks ago, on the 20th April. I've been told it will be about 8 weeks for a decision due to a backlog.

However, my assessment went horribly and I'm expecting to have to go to mandatory reconsideration, so I reckon I'll be looking at practically a full year from starting the claim to the MR decision.

I did! I requested a copy of my assessment report and it was shockingly misleading so I phoned them and literally rebutted it line by line. The woman on the phone was lovely and she took tonnes of notes, which went to the decision maker.

I was awarded PIP first time with no need to go to MR.

Starrrz · 15/02/2024 21:28

@amusedbush ok thankyou ill do the same ! How lonng did it take to get a response? X

Starrrz · 15/02/2024 21:30

@amusedbush also if u dont mind me asking. What was ur assessor like? How did it go wrong as u put in ur previous post. Really dont want that stress xxx

amusedbush · 16/02/2024 09:25

@Starrrz I got a confirmation text 7 weeks after my assessment and then my award letter arrived a couple of days later.

The assessment was stressful because I have a hard time keeping my thoughts in order and expressing myself clearly when communicating verbally. I struggle with anomic aphasia (I forget common words while speaking) and this is made worse by stress, and my working memory is trash so I kept forgetting important things and then having to jump back and forth between topics.

I requested a video call because it's easier for me when I can see someone's face but it cut out and we had to continue over the phone. I'm convinced she did that deliberately to trip me up and "prove" that I'm not autistic and I can deal with sudden changes 🙄 in her report she wrote that I appeared calm and not stressed, even though I was visibly tearful and, at one point, she was aware that I left the call to go to the toilet because the stress caused an IBS flare.

Starrrz · 16/02/2024 09:59

@amusedbush im so sorry that happened to you :( why would someone be so cruel to someone who is struggling!

i was crying for most of mine, as talking abo ur how rubbish my life has got since long covid! My pots and endometriosis im life a shadow of who i was. I had my assessment on 6th of feb. She sent the report to dwp within the hour/m. So im hoping she was truthful.
she didnt really say much to me when i cried i said im not doing it for her to feel sorry for me. Its just so rubbish! Hope my report comes in the post today x

LeopardsRockingham · 16/02/2024 10:47

It should be backdated to Feb, the date you sent in the forms.
So if you went from standard to enhanced rate you will get the difference between the 2 for the past year. Which hopefully will be a nice little bonus to make up for such a hideous experience
