Anyone else super anxious in the morning?

And how to cope?
I wake up so anxious and have dry heaves as I get dressed. I’m overwhelmed at keeping it all going, stress of Dp and teens, endless chores. I’m so anxious about money and the future.it’s mainly just in the mornings and then the day takes over, but sometimes, like today, just the sheer immensity of getting everyone up and out again overwhelms! I know it will get done, it just seems so endless. Tips please!

I can relate to this OP, I get really bad morning anxiety and have done for years. It starts to get better around 11am and then by 12pm-1pm I feel absolutely fine. It does help a little bit if I've prepared as much as I can the night before (lunches, clothes, money) but I still get morning anxiety no matter what 😔

KangarooKenny · 03/05/2022 07:28

You should see your GP.

PiesMcPieFace · 03/05/2022 07:29

OP, are you being woken suddenly by an alarm? I used to feel like this when I had an alarm on it's own but bought one of those sunrise clocks and it helps no end. I still set an alarm as back up, but the sunrise effect brings me around slowly before my alarm goes off.
Some mornings DS toddler wakes me from a deep sleep suddenly and I slip abut if CBD additive in my first coffee Wink

HardRockOwl · 03/05/2022 07:30

How old are you? Have you considered this may be a symptom of the menopause and a discussion about HRT with your GP might help?

Regardless though, you need to see your doctor to get some help with this anxiety

OutlookStalking · 03/05/2022 07:31

Yep. I have a drs appointment booked but couldn't get one with my dr for a month.

I really want a better job but not sure this level of not functioning is conducive to one... but regular work and income would help. And it goes on...

Inclinedtochatter · 03/05/2022 07:41

The “stress hormone,” cortisol, is released by the adrenal glands in response to fear or stress. Researchers have found that cortisol is highest in the first hour of waking for people with an increased level of anxiety. This helps explain why you may experience an increase in anxiety in the morning.

Rainraingoaway21 · 03/05/2022 07:53

Omg I've felt this for years. I didn't know it was a thing for others too. I feel silly saying it as there's nothing particularly wrong with my life, I like my job etc, just the chore of getting everyone up and out the house and having time constraints I guess.

I have been like it for as long as I can remember. I disliked school so maybe stemmed from that🤷‍♀️

Like a pp said, it helps to be as organised as possible the night before so the morning is as stress free as possible.

Maybe have something nice planned to look forward to so when you wake you can remember that? Just something small like planning to watch your fav programme later on, have a nice dinner, a walk, paint nails - anything!

I think the type of alarm definitely makes a difference too. I currently have birdsong on my phone that gradually gets louder but would like to try one of those sunrise ones. I couldn't bear a horrible alarm noise or the radio.

No other ideas I'm afraid but can sympathise!

The only way to manage your anxiety is to have a plan. What needs to be done? Can you delegate? Ima routine and lists may help.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 03/05/2022 08:30

I wake early and take a Propranolol and a magnolia bark supplement before I get up. It takes about half an hour for these to start to kick in.

Ashwagandha is also good for anxiety.

Playplayaway · 03/05/2022 08:55

Same here. I'm in peri and have teen dd who is prone to drama in the mornings.

Like a pp said, school was difficult for me and I think my dread of mornings stems from the absolute dread of another day in school.

I need at least two hours in the morning before I need to log on for work or leave the house. Once I'm ready I put on a wash or clean the kitchen or prepare something for dinner - anything to fill the time or I just sit there anxious.

Staying off my phone helps. Time seems to go faster if I allow myself some morning scrolling.

Nitgel · 03/05/2022 08:58

I have this daily mostly due to my shitty underfunded job. Doubt GP could help with me 😄

Same here, have always suffered a bit with morning anxiety but work is what's pushed me over the edge lately. After a very stressful few years with separation from abusive ex, pandemic, worries about kids etc. Could just about manage before but am drowning since getting promoted at work.

I don't know what the answer is.

muppamup · 03/05/2022 10:22

I think getting as much ready the night before helps - e.g. school uniforms, school lunches, clothes laid out, water bottles, rucksacks, anything you need for your day ahead.

Cleanbedlinen12 · 04/05/2022 02:55

Thanks. Glad I’m not the only one. Tho sorry you’re having this!
I’m beginning to think it’s a bit of everything- money fears, fear of getting everyone out the house, fear of the future and general learned fear from the pandemic. I didn’t think to go to the docs. I might give it a go. Maybe she can get me a better job nitgel 😀and try supplements. I am sick of it and beginning to fear the fear which is insane!

I am looking for a different job to try and change one of the causes.

But I'm not sure if anxiety will just transfer. And also being anxious isnt the best place to weigh up which jobs you could/couldn't do!

LadyCampanulaTottington · 04/05/2022 07:47

Get to your GP and ask for a DUTCH test OP. It will check your cortisol levels and assess your adrenal health. It sounds like an imbalance to me.

Cleanbedlinen12 · 09/05/2022 00:49

Thank you, I didn’t know you could do that. Am thinking of actually braving gp tomorrow. This has to stop!

Maybe it’s linked to letrazole that is a pill I am taking after cancer?

I've felt horrendous every morning since I first started getting bullied at secondary school aged 11. I'm 43 now so that's 32 years of feeling like absolute shit every morning. It doesn't matter how well my life is going or not going now, the anxiety persists, it's to do with cortisol.

LittleRedTrucks100 · 09/05/2022 03:56

And yes, I've seen my GP and had multiple rounds of CBT. Did nothing.

autienotnaughty · 09/05/2022 05:18

Yes I have anxiety it's alway worse when I wake. I sometimes play a guided meditation or relaxing music or I tighten and relax my muscles. Still keeps happening tho.

Cleanbedlinen12 · 09/05/2022 07:00

Sorry you are feeling like this all!

mothertrucking · 09/05/2022 07:04

Yes I'm the same and have been like this for as long as I can remember. It's rare for me to wake in the morning and feel ok.
