I hardly ever read, only on holiday 🙈 I actually prefer the audiobook version if I’m feeling lazy 😂
Last year I listened to ‘The Couple Next Door’ - loved it! Their baby goes missing from her cot, it’s really good!

I see you by Claire Macintosh, also incredible

urbanbuddha · 03/05/2022 00:55

The ones that come to mind first;

The Bricks That Built The Houses - Kate Tempest

Offshore
The Blue Flower - both by Penelope Fitzgerald

The Crow Road - Iain Banks

Brazzaville Beach - William Boyd

I have just re discovered The Shell Seekers by Rosamund Pilcher.

Sadly it isn't available in any digital format so it's back to paperbacks with this one.

Tezza1 · 03/05/2022 01:58

@Ylvamoon Actually, Rosamund Pilcher's books are available in digital format. I downloaded The Shell Seekers a couple of months ago.

His Bloody Project Graeme McRae Burnett
My sister the serial killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite
The Expendable Man by Dorothy B Hughes (you might have to buy it second hand)
Burial Rites by Hannah Kent - good but quite sad.
These have stuck in my mind - more than the murder/ mystery/ detective best sellers.

Flatandhappy · 03/05/2022 05:05

I recently got hooked on Kate Quinn’s books - not the historical series - after someone in my bookclub suggested The Huntress. The Alice Network, The Rose Code and her latest The Diamond Eye were all really good, I have struggled to find anything I like as much since and I read a lot.

I'm guessing you're not in England but in case @UrsulaBursula is , The Shell Seekers is on Kindle here, I have it on my wishlist

The recommendations here are quite heavy, I'm not very good at remembering what I've read but have had found a lot of good suggestions in the reading topic, have you looked there?
