NHS pensions- when did / will you retire, what’s your pension, did you retire-return

Just trying to plan ahead. My ESR looks out of date and obviously the government need to put the 2015 element back to 1996 if I want after losing the court case.

This all makes planning a bit difficult what with pensions sitting in 2 schemes.

Helpful to hear people’s stories if you’re retired / planning to soon.

How many years did you pay in, what was your final salary and what pension do you collect? If you retired-returned, how many hours did you work to make your salary up?

thank you

So I qualified in 93. Can retire now at 56. Pension will be £1200, lump sum £37000. I plan to work 1-2 long days a week so will be earning about the same as now.

@OddsandSods you can log into the pension site and get lots of online projections. It will tell you how much you will get depending upon what age you want to retire. You can choose bigger lump sums too. It's worth doing to help your decisions.

If anyone knows the answer to my question I would also like to know so I can plan ahead. I am 54, worked as a Nurse for many years but gave it up a few years ago and doing a different career now. Am I still able to take my NHS pension at 55 if I am not currently working in the NHS or do I have to wait until 60 ? Latest forcast said something like £8k pension and 18k lump sum. I had lots of gaps, part time etc. Paid in from 1986-2018 minus 4 years living abroad and 3 years off to do a full time degree. My main question - do I have to wait until 60 to access my pension?

Yeah I tried but it doesn’t seem to work for me.

Why don't you ask your pension provider directly ?

I asked mine & they said the earliest was 55

I don't work for NHS

I've got 12 years of an nhs pension so I may drop a day a week in my job and claim my £300 a month and £13k lump sum in a couple of years when I'm 57. I will probably retire at 62. I have 3 other final salary pensions. My final income will be £28k a year.

Libertybear80 · 02/05/2022 11:43

I think what age you can retire depends upon the scheme you're in. I can take mine at 55 because I'm in the 95 scheme.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I am in that one too.

@OddsandSods I’m a lowly 5 now although was a 6 for quite a long time too. All based on last 3 years.

I would like to know this too please.

I’ve paid into the NHS pension for 33 years.
mom 52.
I have recently left the NHS so assume my pension is now frozen.
I was told that I am half and half old/new pension.
I want to know when I would be eligible to claim my pension and lump sum.
Very grateful if any one can answer for me.
thanks.
