Can you go for a blood test at any hospital?

Hi all. Does anyone know if once a GP orders you a blood test and gives you the form, you can go anywhere for the test - i.e. even a different county?

I've been waiting for my period to come for six months so I can have fertility tests. They need to be done on day two or three of your period. It looks like it's finally here now but I've just checked and our local hospital doesn't have any appointments for over a fortnight.

Could I get it done when I'm at work in London (entirely different county/group of hospitals) at a walk in clinic at one of the hospitals?

Sorry, my GP is shut today (Monday) else I would ask them. Thank you!

No. GPs are linked to specific hospitals so results get back to them. They can refer out of those so you could call the GP and ask but it’s likely they’ll say no. I understand the frustration of waiting for a period for months and I’d consider getting the tests done privately if you can as super easy to arrange same day blood tests in London.

I think so. I've had bloods for say Blackpool hospital done in Bolton before

Its normally the only one in your health trus5s hospitals.
An example would be frinley park health trust. It contains 3 hospitalsn you can only go yo them usually.
What is the trust name at yye top of the fotm?

Our hospital won't do gp requests, only hospital ones (from that hospital ) dp attends an outpatient clinic in a different health authority and has to return there for bloods but different areas might not be as regimented

If ypuuave you have routine tests not emergency say A&E) out of your trust the funding is a problem i understand, as is retrieving them in a timely manner kmore an issue for you)

If you get them done at a random hospital not in your GP's linked trust, the results won't get sent to your GP.

fungibletoken · 02/05/2022 01:10

Thank you all! @GlamGiraffe that's a really good point about funding. That makes me think it is unlikely. The top of my request letter does mention a trust and a few different hospital websites I've looked at say "when your GP orders you a blood test at X hospital".

Gahhh 😖 this is the only hospital in our area that does them now apparently.

If you. Look online at ypur hodpital trusts. It will tell you all. Hodpital in your trust even district hospitals . Ring phleboyomy in the morning at eash.via switchboard Explain the situation tgey may fit you in. It can be against rules but they do sonetimes accomodate. For example uclh in london has 11 sites scattered and royal free has 5 curently. Worth a try!
