Best ear plugs for snoring?

Can anyone recommend a really good pair of ear plugs to cope with my DH’s snoring?
I currently use the squishy foam ones (see photo) but, whilst they do help, they aren’t completely doing the trick and I am woken in the early hours.
Incase it’s relevant:

  • I love my DH and don’t want to leave him.

  • He isn’t over weight

  • He doesn’t have sleep apnea

  • We don’t have a spare room

  • I like sharing a bed with him

  • I prod him if he snores (he told me to), which wakes him and stops the snoring but we both end up not getting enough sleep.

  • Our children are teens and tweens.

  • It’s just a case of middle age

Thanks all

Oh I hear you. Rubbish, isn't it? I use Mackies silicon ear plugs from Amazon. Don't block out everything but if I fall asleep first I tend to sleep through much of the noise.

Link doesn't work, sorry

The foam ones should do the trick if shoved firmly up his nose😂

RainbowToes · 01/05/2022 21:14

I use Mackies Dream girls foam ear plugs. I buy a huge tub of them.

Wax earplugs and white noise sleep headphones thingy was the best I ever managed. I could still hear him.
I still ended up in separate beds. Sleep was more important.

GillyGumbo · 01/05/2022 22:06

I have some of those things with 3 cones of silicone on a stem that you used to be able to buy as "travel earplugs" - they have their own little case and a plastic applicatior tube to make sure you're getting then far enough down the ear canal!

Trouble is they're now pretty ancient - you can't buy them anymore, I can't get the right one to stay in and most of the earplugs on Amazon now are only good to something like 27db. My DH's snoring has been known to top 50db.

I have tried the soft mouldable silicone ones but struggle to get a good fit, and when I do they create an awful vacuum that uncomfortable to lie on. I can't believe those cheap foam ones are any good, are they? For road-drill level snoring?

amicissimma · 01/05/2022 22:07

Like PP I use white noise through sleepphones plus soft earplugs to allow me to have the white noise loud enough to drown the snoring. The vibrations still pass through the mattress, though, so two mattresses next to each other is better. Or separate beds.

I've never found earphones that cut out much noise.

There are loads of things he can try too. Nasal vents, nasal strips, sprays, etc etc etc.

Is this the sort you mean? www.amazon.co.uk/4Pairs-Plugs-Sleeping-Noise-Cancelling/dp/B07ZSZQD22/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=30U4A8LDBX0LT&keywords=Noise+blocking+earplugs&qid=1651493642&refinements=p_72%3A184325031&rnid=184307031&s=drugstore&sprefix=noise+blocking+earplugs%2Caps%2C70&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFITFVCVEZRMFlROTImZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA1NDQxNjczU0ZHQ0gxRE1DOTNLJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA4NjA4NDIxUDdEOU1YRlo4NE5aJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Hugasauras · 02/05/2022 13:18

I've tried a lot and these are the best I've found by far:
3M EAR Classic ear plugs, 50 pairs packed in pairs, yellow, SNR = 28dB, Ear defenders https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01NBU2R5N/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_K7F50BSACDGGQMM003WA

A lot of the squishier ones don't seem to expand well or create a total seal, but these do and are super easy to insert and reuse.

tootrueblue · 02/05/2022 13:22

I use Deep Sleeps silicone ear plugs from Amazon

AnchorWHAT · 02/05/2022 13:31

If so there are lots similar on amazon, hope you find some.

WinterDeWinter · 02/05/2022 13:35

I've tried them all and the only ones which have worked really well for me are called happy ears. They're expensive ( from Sweden I think) and you have to have the right size, so get the trial pack in the first instance.

GillyGumbo · 02/05/2022 14:42

Yes, similar @AnchorWHAT - although I thought I read something about those in the reviews, about the stems being too long for side sleepers and having to cut them down or something. 🤔 Mine have shorter stems, but came with a short length of hard plastic straw to insert/remove them with! I think they're probably just a bit old and inflexible now.

I found some foam ones which people seem to think stay in and are good for 35db, so I'll try them. I've used something like them for motorcycling but always felt the motorcycle helmet kept them clamped in place...and I've had some other 3-flanged ones (love that word, flange 🤣) for clay shooting but the wings hurt your ears after a while.

You've heard nothing until you've heard my lovely, entirely blameless DH's hammerdrill snore. It cuts through solid walls. I don't want to be apart from him, I want to be near him, so if I can shave off enough decibels to stay asleep in the wee small hours I'll be happy.

RampantIvy · 02/05/2022 14:44

What is he doing to combat this problem?

Ah, good luck,
i do however suspect re the hammer drill that i just may have a rival in my bed! I currently have some cheap foam ones that seem reasonably ok but i am sure i can do better, i have on the back of this thread just ordered silicone macks and some 3d foam, fingers crossed they work.
DH is slim, fit, healthy and active, not a drinker except at weekends but has over the last year developed a snore, doesn't appear to stop breathing so doubt its sleep apnea, tried the nasal strips, a spray and a nose clip and an anti snore pillow ha ha what a rip off, nothing has worked so far so if anyone has any other suggestions for something they have tried that does work id be happy to hear about it. Until then its the earplug route for me.

AnchorWHAT · 02/05/2022 15:10

Doh… 3M not 3d

Handyweatherstation · 02/05/2022 15:53

My OH's snore sounds like someone scraping a wooden chair across a quarry tiled floor and can make the bed vibrate, it's awful. I've been using the wax earplugs from Boots and as long as I'm asleep before he comes to bed then I manage. I do have to ask him to turn on his side a couple of times a night, though.

cicatrix1 · 02/05/2022 15:58

I like boots own make wax earplugs, sometimes get stuck in your hair ....but i prefer them to most.

Nat6999 · 02/05/2022 16:04

I use Wutan earplugs from Amazon as the foam ones made my ears sore, they block out a fan on maximum so should work for snoring.

FrankieCH · 02/05/2022 17:50

I got a sample pack from Snorestore and they had these in it and I use them every night. Not cheap but they last about 20 uses easily Insta putty
