Chasing up work emails

I sent an email to one of my managers recently and I’ve not had a response yet.

is it reasonable to give the recipient 7 days to reply? There is no automatic response to say he is out of office for whatever reason.

if I don’t get a reply within 7 days, what would be best to send in another email? Something like “hi, I emailed you on X day but I have not had a response yet, I would be grateful if you could please give me a response”

I hate rudeness!

7 days is more than enough time for them to be able to respond. Even if they didn’t have the answer they should acknowledge receipt and let you know they are looking into whatever it is. Could you casually ask them if they received your email?

I'd forward the one you sent with "hi, Judy making sure you received the below email originally sent on x date." I look forward to your reply.

Then tag it high importance with a read receipt as well.

Just* not Judy haha

Erm. I wouldn't email. I'd phone, bit of small talk then "have you had a chance to look at that yet?"

And actually I'd expect others to do the same to me. And they do.

It's work, you're trying to get things done. If you need an answer then why fanny about?

Depends on the industry. If you work in publishing, you’re lucky to get anything within the month.
