Has anyone here had their pelvic floor surgically repaired?

Were you referred to physio first?

Did the physio take one look and say physio alone won't help, or did you do physio for a while and there was little improvement?

Did surgery help?

I would like to know this too

I saw the physio, physio sorted it, no surgery 😊

Yes, went to see surgeon, she said that surgery was needed and physio would not work. Had surgery this year and it has fixed the problem but it was a longer recovery than I expected. FROPS UK on Facebook is an excellent closed group with lots of wise women and resources if you have further questions x

At what point do you think I need to see someone about it - obviously nothing too personal with information if you don't feel comfortable.
its just I worry about my pelvic floor and know if I'm going somewhere dancing, on the trampoline or doing anything active I will need a pad as I leak (tmi sorry). but when I was checked a few years ago they said all was fine and just continue with the exercises.

@breathcalmly can I ask what repair you had? And what was the wait like on nhs? I’m suffering with womb prolapse and rectocele really want some positive stories also how old are you

I had rectocyle and cystocyle grade 3. Luckily I get private medical cover through work which I used for this so I went private which wasn’t perfect but it was a quick wait. I realise how lucky I am, usually use the NHS. People do seem to wait quite a while on NHS, see that group I mentioned. The recovery time was challenging, I have 4 kids and really took a few months to be back to normal which was hard work with the kids and you can’t really ever lift any the heavy again, also a challenge here.

I’m 45 and quite fit and healthy otherwise. I’ve had to stop running now because of risk of it creating another prolapse or trashing the repair which id done for years which was a bit gutting as helped me maintain my weight but I now swim and fast walk which seems to be okay x

SheilaSazs · 20/10/2022 19:09

I would go to the doctor and get checked out, they can do an internal examination. I was having no symptoms other than abdominal pain and no leakage, but could see something that didn't look quite right - and seemed it was quite an advance prolapse. Get the Squeezy app and start doing your pelvic floors (I still do 6 a day now) which will help in the meantime x

I had physio to start with, but then chronically over-lifted to the point of no return🙄had hysterectomy and anterior floor repair. Took the full 12 weeks for me but had complications which slowed recovery. Massively better for many years. Totally worth it, butbi still managed to over-lift again and caused a minor prolapse (there is no telling me!) BUT I have been able to pull it back with exercise so it is possible! (If you're not a wally with the lifting).

Bridget944 · 21/10/2022 09:17

@SheilaSazs what prolapse did you have and had it completely gone? I do the exercises religiously so can’t see physio doing much more for me :( what we’re your symptoms
