Anyone put these in the washing machine??? My daughter has 3 that she adores and I'd like to freshen and fluff them back up.
I know they say to wipe clean with a sponge but that's not going to really clean them

They come out a bit bedraggled and take a fair bit of fluffing back up, but I've done it!

MintyMoocow · 01/05/2022 08:38

Yep, remember heart in my mouth when Maypole went in first time, but he came out good as new.
Put them in a pillowcase fastenened with an elastic band, should be fine.

DD's adored rabbit goes through the wash on a delicate cycle fine. The only problem is that she wanders round the house saying, "Wabbit" sadly while it's in there.

elbea · 01/05/2022 08:59

Ours went in the wash a few days ago after my DD was sick on it. Put in a pillow case to wash and then tumble dried on low, was like brand new

Squaffle · 01/05/2022 09:10

Yep, have done loads of times over 6 years, it’s a white one so I just stick it in a normal wash with other whites. We don’t have a tumble dryer but it only takes a few hours to dry on the airer. Sometimes the beanbag feet take a bit longer to dry: we have resorted to a hairdryer on these if still damp at bedtime!

Teddy washing is a big thing in our house. On a sunny day, all teddies have a bath in the garden in a bucket with some shower gel and get all wet. Lots of bubbles and fun for the kids. Then the teddies do a gentle cycle in the washing machine and tumble dry. Do start in the morning to be sure they are dry for bed time.

whoruntheworldgirls · 01/05/2022 13:29

Whew, thank you all that's really helped! When she's at school I'll get them in the wash first thing.
Do you use fabric conditioner too or just detergent?
No clue how to adjust the temperature on my tumble dryer so I'll put on the radiators instead Grin

And is a 30 degree wash ok or would it be cold?

Dd 15 has a black cat made by jellycat and he has been though the was hundreds of times over the years. The last time he was washed he went in a hot wash 60 and it did him no harm he dried faster.

Jellycatspyjamas · 01/05/2022 14:50

I’ve washed Jellycat toys loads (my username reflects the sheer volume of the buggers my kids have collected over the years). A 30 degree wash, no fabric condition and a tumble fry and they’re as good as new. If you don’t tumble dry give them a blast with the hair dryer to reflux them up. We have a regular cuddly toy “bath” day in our house.

Jellycatspyjamas · 01/05/2022 14:51

Tumble dry - don’t fry them 🙄

TheSnowyOwl · 01/05/2022 14:51

Spa day for hand wash Jellycat toys involve the washing machine and tumble dryer. All are still going strong many years later.

whoruntheworldgirls · 01/05/2022 14:55

Thanks so much, looking forward to giving them a proper wash on Tuesday now

Pop them in a pillow case and tie the top so they don't get bashed about as much.

We appear to be collecting them in here and with sticky fingers and snotty noses and wipe down simply wont do!

Floydthebarber · 01/05/2022 15:11

Yep, a zebra has been on a quick 30 cycle numerous times. They never are as fluffy and soft but he'd experienced some bad things so needs must. Always comes out looking and smelling better than he went in though.

whoruntheworldgirls · 04/05/2022 13:56

To report back, i follow advice and put them in a pillowcase, no fabric conditioner, on a normal 30 degree wash then in the tumble dryer on low heat and they've come up lovely, one is returning to the brand new fluffiness, the other 2 might take a few more washes to fluff up!
Smell and look lovely now, thanks all :-) i have a very happy little girl who keeps sniffing her clean bunnies

Relieved that she likes the smell, I was about to posting a warning, my dc was bereft that the bunny smelt of the washing machine and not of bunny, like proper drop tears leaking out of the eyes. About three weeks later dc announced bunny was back to smelling his best and then proceeded to hide bunny every morning so I couldn't wash him again.

😂bless, that's sweet.
She's 5 so thankfully understood they needed to be washed, especially after hugging them on holiday while covered in suncream.
