Craving morphine so badly?

pickuportripup · 29/04/2022 21:58

6 months ago I attended A&E in agony. Worse than labour. Admitted and they gave me morphine through the vein. I was operated on the next day and still remembering savouring the morphine as I knew I'd be leaving without any

It felt like a warm, fluffy cloud. I felt like nothing in the world was such a big deal and life was calm. I felt like someone had taken my stressful life, wrapped me up in a warm fuzzy blanket and tucked me in

I just felt so... zen

I really miss that feeling

Is that normal? Blush Feeling very stressed today and craving it. I can't forget how that stuff made me feel

It was amazing! I have never even smoked a cigarette in my life so very very unfamiliar with anything 'bad' like drugs and alcohol

Made me vom for England plus spout out a load of unintelligible shite to every Tom dick and Harry on the ward. It certainly did not give me the feeling of fluffy clouds.

CiderWithLizzie · 29/04/2022 23:20

morph made me feel dreadful! I could still the pain but just felt sick and spaced out. Codeine is similar for me but I can manage one cocodomol with one paracetamol.

Frlrlrubert · 29/04/2022 23:23

I had it 18 years ago when I had pneumonia and it was amazing. Everything was great and I felt sort of floaty but whizzy at the same time.

Absolutely understand why it's so addictive!

I had my gall bladder of three months ago and was actually looking forward to the post op morphine. Unfortunately it depressed my breathing so I couldn't have the full dose and ended up struggling for breath, still in pain, and not on a fully cloud. I was massively disappointed.

mumda · 29/04/2022 23:23

Exercise or chocolate. Or you can fall in love and get a rush from that. But remember the exercise is better for you than the chocolate.

I still remember being given morphine at 15/16 whilst doing my GCSEs and having a severe water infection and ended up being admitted.

I am 45 now and can still remember the feeling of it flooding round my body. I can see why people get addicted and hope you get some help OP

Mooloolabababy · 29/04/2022 23:37

Ah I know what you mean op. I was given something similar (think it may have been oxycodone) after I had a minor op. I remember being in bed at home and in pain so I took one and then I had a warm and floaty feeling and it felt so good, I also remember thinking at that point, wow, I can see how people can become addicted as I felt so chilled and relaxed. I decided not to take any more after that and just took paracetamol as I felt uneasy about good it made me feel!

SilverHairedCat · 29/04/2022 23:45

I don't get it tbh. I've had morphine for a few hospital related occurrences and I definitely don't get the high that people's describe. It has never taken my pain away - perhaps that's why?

OP what's upsetting you to want to take drugs to escape?

DrBrennerFan · 29/04/2022 23:53

Had diazepam for a week because of bad back but wouldn’t crave it again I was so happy the pain was helped with. I do have codeine for bad nights but that’s getting less and less now I’m back on ibuprofen full time now because that really does help with arthritis and back twinges. No happy feelings but I’m fine with that. Paracetamol as well four times a day so for me I’m sorted. Without them though I’d hardly be able to move it’s that bad. Hopefully warmer weather soon will help.

MissMaple82 · 29/04/2022 23:58

Yes it's fucking amazing! I remember it well when I had it. Im now on string opioid pain killers which provide a similar effect but nowhere near as good as morphine

Ticksallboxes · 30/04/2022 00:07

I remember years ago a friend telling me how she became addicted to heroin "because it felt like a warm, fluffy cloud". Be very cautious of this!!

Strangely I tried heroin twice on a weekend when my parents were away, at 18, and remember thinking that white wine felt better!

I think it really does affect people differently (I've still stuck to white wine all my life), but it does sound like you're having unfortunately one of the highly addictive experiences. Seriously, beware...

crackofdoom · 29/04/2022 22:30

I remember trying opium once, and thinking "This is so wonderful, I'd better never have it again".

Same!!

Fizzyfish · 30/04/2022 00:15

Love morphine 😍😍

Opiate addiction following use for acute pain is rare, but it does happen and it sounds like you have the potential to be one of those rare people. Consider staying away from all opiates (codiene, co codomol, tramadol, fentanyl etc) going forward.

I don’t think it’s rare at all. I think it’s rampant. I’m an addict.

Rodion · 30/04/2022 00:18

It made me vomit and retch for ages, which just made the abdominal pain I was taking it for utterly unbearable. That's the only thing I remember about it, no nice floaty cloud feelings in sight... I hated it.

Definitely avoid in future though. Chasing the first high is what debilitating addictions are made of.

Flatbrokefornow · 30/04/2022 00:19

I’ve never had morphine, but I had a minor op under fentanyl and it was fantastic. Not during, but afterwards. My Non-sleeping DD must have been about two at the time and was….challenging. Half an hour under on the fentanyl and it felt like I’d had weeks away in a spa. All my aches and pains gone, tight muscles reset, the best, most refreshing sleep ever. I felt absolutely amazing, full of energy and optimism. I kept thinking if you could have recreational GAs, I’d be signing up for weekly ones on the way out, whatever the cost.

I’m still a bit sad you can’t do that. I’ve never felt so ready for anything. Not high, just physically optimal. I suppose there’s a reason it’s illegal. Sigh.

I had morphine orally three times a day and morphine patches for six months, ask yourself how ill I was.

I welcomed the sleep it brought and when the pain had passed, I took the oramorph and poured it down the sink. I love wine, I love the relaxed feeling I get from it, but morphine is a means to an end.

Plus the itch as I was drifting off to an other drug induced sleep was vile.

Grow up , you sound about fifteen to be craving something you had once.

Pray you never truly need it.

I had throat cancer, so I had to take my morphine through a feeding tube.

Your post is just ridiculous IMO

TheSillyMastiff · 30/04/2022 00:22

I've had morphine on a few occasions, because I'm reckless with my personal safety and have a habit of breaking major bones it would appear and I also had a kidney infection.

All I can remember is not being able to feel my teeth, a giggle, and then waking up 7 hours later. 😳🤣

I feel cheated that I didn't have the "warm fluffy feeling!"

shreddednips · 30/04/2022 00:25

I've had to have morphine quite a few times following surgery, I've always found that the first dose does feel lovely and then it gradually becomes less pleasant. After a while I'm glad to be able to stop taking it and stop feeling out of it. I think if you're feeling like this years later you should, as PPs say, stay away from opiates.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 30/04/2022 00:45

I had diamorphine during my first labour. I totally understand opiate addition after that, but I felt so out of control I refused it in my 2nd labour. Ended up with a breech baby anyway and straight to c-section

Coyoacan · 30/04/2022 00:51

I had several friends who became heroin addicts, poor things. I told my dd that heroin must be absolutely wonderful or no-one would do it. These friends would have sold their own grandmothers to get another shot. By the time they died of overdoses, we all heaved a sigh of relief.

By the way, there is no pain relief strong enough for morphine addicts

Michael Jackson did exactly this and Prince iirc?

takingmytimeonmyride · 30/04/2022 11:27

I had morphine after having my twins by c-section. All it did was take the pain away and allow me to sleep. I didn't feel anything else really. Guess it's just as well!

DrBrennerFan · 30/04/2022 14:51

I will confess a few weeks ago so fed up of pain I’d took three codiene two paracetamol hot water bottle for back (this was leading up to the spasm week as I think of it ) h was furious but for one night it gave me relaxed rest, today I have ibuprofen as well so codeine is less now. Back much improved feeling much better as blu skies and warmer weather helps.
