DD,18, is currently on a drip with tonsillitis or quinsy. She called an ambulance at 4am at uni but they wouldn't send one and said to call the GP. DH went to pick her up (we're 1.5 hours away) and took her to our local hospital. She's currently in majors which has worried me. Does that mean they're concerned about her more than usual? She's hasn't eaten/drunk for 48 hours so I'm glad she's being rehydrated and is being given pain relief as she has been in terrible pain for two days now but what's the likely next steps please?
She had quinsy when she was 14 and was in overnight but we were able to be with her and it seemed more low key than this as they've done bloods/ecg etc so far as well as the drips. I'm just feeling a bit anxious about her.

Just posting to say sorry to hear DD is poorly but she is being cared for and you’ve done the right thing in getting her to the hospital.

hope she is more comfortable soon
have you asked for information from the staff?

Majors just means not a minor injury like a sprain or something and in my experience everyone gets an ECG in majors regardless of what’s wrong. Given how busy most departments are I would just ask your daughter to update you directly rather than ringing staff in the department. Hope she’s better soon

Thanks both. No,I wasn't going to phone but was just concerned she was more poorly than we thought. She can't speak but has texted to say they're keeping her in overnight when a bed becomes free. Thanks again.

Bloods cannula and ecg all routine in majors . Majors just means she’s not a minor injury ( sprain , laceration etc ) and she needs treatment so can’t sit in the waiting room . Quinsy is nasty and painful and she may need IV antibiotics and fluids so it may be an overnight stay . Try not to fret she’s getting treatment and will feel better soon x

She's home this evening and much better after a very uncomfortable few days. She's exhausted but can now eat and drink which is really helping.
