What nice hobbies do you have? I fancy something new

I feel like I’d like a new and interesting thing to do - not something to excel at particularly, just something fun to do. I already go to the gym and Pilates and don’t have loads of time as I have older primary kids and a job.
I was thinking of something crafty? But what could I do from home? Or a short course and then do from home?
I need inspiration from your hobbies!

Embroidery.

I agree with this , I am going through a horrible illness right now so have taken up cross stich and it really distracts the mind and the shopping for sewing box essentials .

ZenNudist · 30/04/2022 20:30

Gardening. Good for you and you have something to show for it.

RedRosie · 30/04/2022 20:35

I do a language and a musical instrument. I'm not especially talented at either, but absolutely love the learning process.

@Graphista

Duolingo. For languages. Free, and fab. Use the webpage not the app tho. The app has a stupid hearts system that penalises you for mistakes. But not on the website.

memrise is OK too, and I love the EasyLanguages videos.

Sounds a bit like proggy but that is making rugs so maybe just similar concept!

Sounds a bit like felting although unsure of the use of the word 'bodging' in this context as I took it to mean to make or repair something badly or clumsily but there may be regional meaning I not aware of..

gianaInfertilitySucks · 30/04/2022 21:51

I'm reading, and i started learning spanish

PathOfLeastResitance · 30/04/2022 22:25

I sew clothes (mainly) and like many others here, taught myself to knit and crochet with a book. I went to a 2 hour calligraphy course and find it very relaxing. It is harder than I thought it would be but easy to get lost in.

I volunteer with the (famous) cathedral in my city. Now that covid is receding, visitors are returning so back to my guided tours I go! The school tours are such fun with the kiddies so I have to tailor the information for children and adults. My grandad was the bell ringer there in times past, and his name is on the records, so I have a connection. I love it.

I am researching my family tree, but that is a rabbit hole that can take up your life, but it is so interesting.

My two good friends and I go walking once a week to different places of interest. We take turns to choose where we go, and a coffee and cake is included, and is non negotiable.

Other than that I am a lazy git and could sit for hours listening to my audible books, too lazy to even read them lol.

I bought a sewing machine at the start of lockdown after being furloughed. Just over a year later I gave up my job and I’m now sewing full time with my own business! Never would have thought it!

Crochet, I've taught myself with Bella Coco videos & a book, it chills me out & keeps me quiet.

MerchSwyddEfrog · 30/04/2022 23:15

I’m learning to play a musical instrument and a language. I’m also learning music theory. I started learning the musical instrument during lockdown and I’m hoping to take my grade 5 exam this year as well as grade 5 theory. I absolutely love it.

mathanxiety · 30/04/2022 23:30

Crochet?
You can do your time honoured granny square blanket or make baskets using heavy twine.

PickAChew · 30/04/2022 23:34

I knit and sew. I have a sock on the needles and a big wool coat in progress but took a break from that and made myself a vest and some matching knickers, this week 😁

This is so wonderful to see what other people like doing in their spare time .

XenoBitch · 01/05/2022 00:55

It depends. Do you want to occupy your mind, hands, or both? Some hobbies I do to occupy my hands when binging a boxset, and some I do to keep my mind occupied.

Have a browse through the courses on Domestika website. So many on there.

GiraffesMum · 01/05/2022 14:55

Can anyone suggest a good YouTube video/playlist to get me started knitting? I remember briefly learning about 15 years ago, but have forgotten most of it now. Thank you.

CheerioBeerio · 01/05/2022 15:20

@MissCrowley Witchcraft? Can you tell me a bit more about what that involves? I am intrigued.
