I've spilt hot wax (hair removal wax) on my carpet. Help!

How do I get it off? I've googled, but the results are how to remove the (much softer) candle wax and this stuff is rock hard.

It's a 1 year old carpet <cries>

Not sure, does the wax act like candle wax? Can you use a hair dryer to help melt it and blot it up with brown paper? The other option might be to freeze it solid with ice cubes (in a waterproof bag/bowl) place it on the wax to harden it and then chip off, followed up with the hair dryer/blotting technique.
Try in as inconspicuous area as possible first. Or consult a professional carpet cleaner.

After a quick Google, it suggests either freezing it (putting ice cubes in a towel) and holding over the wax then picking it off or ironing on a medium heat with a towel.

Will it not just pick off? Or do you think k that would damage the carpet?

RestingPandaFace · 28/04/2022 22:37

I wouldn’t try and pick it off - it’s designed to stick to fibres after all. I’d put paper towels or a sacrificial old towel down and very gently heat it with an iron on low. As it melts you can blot as much up as possible.

if your carpet is synthetic fibre and you use paper towel I’d put a normal towel on top so you can’t melt the carpet.

Brown paper bag over it and gently iron?
Or freeze it and try and pick it off. Failing that a rug over it

Toddlerteaplease · 28/04/2022 22:48

Brown paper bag or kitchen towel and iron it.

PearPickingPorky · 28/04/2022 22:49

What could I use instead of a brown paper bag? I've tried using kitchen roll and that blue roll the staff use to clean up spills in shops (which is paper towel like), but it's not absorbing very much.

What kind of wax is it?
if it’s sugar wax just some hot soapy water will get it off, if not agree pp iron and brown paper.

Grease proof paper and low iron
Brown paper is better but this will work as well

Herja · 28/04/2022 23:10

Ironing it into newspaper works too, or an old towel you don't mind binning.

LittleOwl153 · 28/04/2022 23:17

Ordinary paper, like printer paper - not the glossy magazine stuff - or a paper (primark?) bag over it then gentle iron protecting the rest of your carpet from burning of course - keep the iron moving.

Hate to ask, but have you got insurance?
The carpet's probably a goner.

Was it the stove-top wax or the microwave one?

Stellamar · 29/04/2022 03:01

Nail polish remover

BookFiend4Life · 29/04/2022 05:01

I had to replace my carpet 😬 good luck op
