Starting Sertraline - what are your experiences with it?

I have the box in front of me and need to take my first pill, but I'm nervous about the side effects. I've taken time off work recently due to anxiety so I can't afford any more time off work, and my job requires good concentration.

I've been prescribed 50mg. The GP didn't mention anything about starting gradually on 25 mg or anything. I'm not sure whether to take a pill tonight, or in the morning or wait until tomorrow evening so I have the three days of the weekend to see how I respond to it?

What are your experiences with starting sertraline?

I was started on 50mg. Very weird first two weeks, increased anxiety, very odd feelings/ dreams, felt very out of character with my thoughts. this settled down after two weeks and then the effects were good. Only take 25mg a day now.

It's now been a week. I went up from 25mg to my prescribed dose of 50mg a few days ago as I wasn't having any side effects apart from clenching my teeth and just wanted to get on with it, if that makes sense. I'm still taking it at night, after a snack and with a whole glass of water.

I've had bad anxiety, particularly in the morning. I wake up and my mind is already ruminating worrying about things 100mph.

I've taken it on and off for approx 25 years. Recently started again and I hate the first few weeks. More anxious, lack of appetite and nausea, no sleep, racing thoughts, restless legs, just general jitteriness. It settles after about 2 weeks.

I take a split dose - 50mg in the morning + 25mg at night, which works for me.
No real side effects apart from ahem flatulence the first couple of weeks.
I've been on it for 2 months now and finally feel like me again!

hello everyone,
I’m day 6 after starting 25mg of sertraline. I’ve increased anxiety, dry mouth and feeling nauseous.
I will persevere but it’s tough. It was great to read the above and it’s given me strength to stick with it.
It’s not my first time been on it either. I came off it last year when really I shouldn’t have.

I recently started taking 50mg of Sertraline, and since starting them (each morning) I am suffering with tingling , burning feet (particularly when inactive). Is this something that other people have also experienced and does it improve at all?
