Breast reduction

I've wanted a breast reduction basically since my boobs grew in. By age 10 I was already a C and now they're horribly massive. It's not how they look: it's the back pain they've given me, which is immense (especially as I already have fibromyalgia), the way they get in the way, etc etc.

DP and I are trying for our first child around January 2024 and I would really like to breastfeed when we have our children. I know not everyone can but it's important that I try. So with that in mind, how easy is it actually to breastfeed after a reduction? Google says it's possible but is it an enormous faff? Am I better off waiting?

Also, I know that when you have breast enlargement you need to go back to have surgery every decade or so. Is it the same for a breast reduction or is this not something to worry about?

Thank you!

You are better to wait until after you have kids, as your breasts will get larger and change shape considerably after childbirth/feeding.
I think going back every ten years or so is due to changing the implant. No further surgery is required after reduction if all goes well.

Thank you this is helpful. Didn't think about them getting bigger again - that's a good point!

Definitely wait, often the breast reduction involved removing the nipple so all the milk ducts are cut before being reattached. In time these ducts can reconnect and so success with breast feeding is entirely possible but less likely if the operation was done recently.

Eeek yes this is good to consider as there wouldn't be much of a gap between surgery and TTC. Thank you!

fairylights
I would wait if I were you. Which I understand is hard. I had a breast reduction after having my family and the relief was fantastic. In my shoulders and upper back, it really was life changing.

But, I then had a surprise baby at 40 and unlike my others I wasn't able to breastfeed. I ended up with an infection and a lot of pain. Not sure if the infection is related, probably not but it all caused me a lot of distress.

Perhaps it was a coincidence but I had very little milk and it stopped altogether at about one month. Whereas I had breastfed with ease my other 3 babies.

Mine have grown again, partly due to pregnancy, partly age and partly a bit of weight gain. I also have quite prominent scars that do still cause a bit of discomfort. But, all that said and done I am still glad I had it done. The cosmetic side was a great added bonus and did wonders for my body confidence but by God not having to lug these heavy things around on my body has been amazing for the last 12 or so years. I am glad I waited til after my first children and was able to experience breastfeeding though. It's a hard balance, I understand.
