Is this hives or something else?

This is the second raised bump I've had this week. Not using any new products in the shower or on my laundry. What could be causing it? They itch like crazy. I assume its hives but I've never had them before.

Opinions would be gratefully received, I've recently had Covid and my health anxiety is quite severe at the moment :(

Maybe a mosquito bite, have you been in the garden, had doors and windows open, they come out when its warm and been raining. You can buy bite relief cream at a chemist.

Can be viral and you can also induce then by scratching, definitely like like a bit of the redness/irritation is where you've scratched.

Just pop an anti histamine

I've been very hermit like due to having Covid so don't think it's likely to be a bite. Just worried its related to the Covid in some way, I've seen so many people report weird health issues after having it. I had one on the other arm three days ago.

When I had hives they all came out at the same time and I had more than 2.
You can't avoid gnats & mosquitos - you could have been bitten by them in your home

COVID does cause hives or spontaneous urticaria . Take an otc antihistamine like piriteze and use a 1% menthol cream for the itchiness - also OTC. It should resolve in time.

If it lasts longer than 6 weeks see a GP as it's considered chronic then and they'll need to run blood tests.

It looks like a bite, bugs can get inside!

phizog · 27/04/2022 18:08

Also don't scratch them. Makes it worse! You can take upto 4 otc antihistamines a day. Ice packs will help too. If nothing works and itching driving you crazy GP can prescribe a stronger anti histamine or short course of steroids.

Possibly, but when I get bug bites you can usually see the dot where you've been bitten, these are just raised and white.

It can last months after Covid.

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 27/04/2022 18:13

Post-viral urticaria (hives) is reasonably common after a lot of different viruses, not just covid. It's not understood precisely why it happens but it's generally annoying rather than serious, and self-resolving.
