Holiday alone

I'm considering a weeks holiday in the sun but I'd be going by myself.

Would you do this?

What would be better. All inclusive resort with lots of pools, bars/restaurants on site.
Self catering? Adults only or family resort?
How do you put suncream on awkward places?!
I'm pretty quiet and reserved so wouldn't be up for joining in entertainment etc.

I look daily but manage to talk myself out of it!

To those thinking about it, I beg you to do it! I've been away a few times on my own, a mix of city breaks, beach holidays & long-haul / adventure.

I've never had anything other than a brilliant time doing exactly as I please, when I please.

8 hours in a museum that would bore the tits off a friend? Done. Long lazy dinners with wine and a good book? Done. Rushing round a theme-park like a mad Woman because I like to get my money's worth and stopping to eat is wasting time? Done. Days spent on a sun-lounger only moving for another cocktail? Done.

I go away in my own a lot. Last year I went to a hotel in Jamaica for a week. Lots of reading, swimming etc.

But I tender to prefer self catering when I'm in the British isles. In the summer I'm going on a cruise up the coast of Norway to the arctic circle.

I added in a TP link that was plugging in to the ring main - it works very well.

I've just got back from doing just this.
Stayed in a small hotel. Breakfast there in the morning, then pleasing myself all day.
Joined up with another solo traveller for a few days out, and was joined for dinner one night by someone else... but mainly chilled out and loved it all.

Go and have an amazing time on your own, chat to people if you feel like it, take a kindle or books, find the sexy pool boy to put on your cream and remember to keep your bag beside you at the airport as there won't be a best pal there to remind you if you leave it in a shop! 😂

GO! GO! GO!! I am VERY jealous xxx

I go alone all the time, sometimes for 3 to 4 weeks. In my opinion, it's the best way

Currently in a hotel, four days in Hungary on my own. It's been lovely. I have explored the city, walked a lot, eaten great food and not once felt lonely or awkward. This was a trial run and I will be doing it again

I've applied suncream with a wooden spatula before. Works! I mean no one needs to see you do it.

@Fabpinky I'm not sure if I'd feel lonely in self catering.

I like people watching too much (nosy) do you think you'll eat out at all?
I'm wondering about the once a day cream and if putting it on first thing with no clothes on would make it easier to contort myself to get all covered. I used to manage fake tan but I was skinny and agile then Hmm

Op, one of the benefits of self catering is being able to buy lovely produce in the local markets and supermarkets and making a meal for yourself.

But it’s also lovely to just go for a wander in the evening and eat in any restaurant that takes your fancy.

And if you’re wary of booking tickets for a museum etc yourself then you can go as part of an organized tour if you book through Viator for example.

Tell us where you fancy going?

I normally do a couple of weekends walking by myself in Britain. This September I’m going to Slovenia. I can’t wait.

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 21/04/2023 06:30

I'm doing this for a long weekend over the early May bank holiday (to south of Portugal) and can't bloody wait.
Booked a self contained Airbnb on the edge of small town. Bit of outdoor space so I can sit and chill in the sunshine. 5 mins walk from local market where I can buy fresh fish and veg (I love cooking) but also walk to a restaurant or cafe if I fancy it. Hiking trails from the door and not far from the beach. Taking my wetsuit so I can swim or surf as well as run/hike and relax with a cuppa and a kindle.
