Can someone tell me what might be wrong with me? My GP isn’t able to!

Currently 14 weeks pregnant. All going well with the baby. I’ve had dreadful 24/7 nausea which is annoyingly continuing into the second trimester.

My issue is that around 3pm every day, I have a feeling of bone crushing, body aching exhaustion wash over me. It often brings me to tears. It’s accompanied by a headache, eye ache, cold feet, heart palpitations along with asthma, which has been well controlled for years, but the worst part is the head to toe body aching exhaustion. I could live with simple exhaustion; it’s the way my body aches that brings me to tears.

Im working from home at a busy desk job in the day, I quite happily work away until this feeling washes over me. The nausea is ever present but Ive learnt to live with that.

I did think that I could have anaemia but all my blood work results were good. No deficiencies, etc. my GP and midwife are stumped.

Anyone able to shed any light or have experience of similar? It’s making my life (and DH’s life) so miserable. I just want to enjoy my pregnancy!

Did they check your stored iron (ferritin) and B12? I felt like you and had CFS through 2 pregnancies. I was later found to have coeliac disease and had virtually no iron stores left and pernicious anaemia which were not checked in routine bloods

I’m not sure as I have asked for a copy of blood works but nothing forthcoming. Seeing midwife tomorrow so will ask her. Thank you for posting, appreciate it.

Did you have symptoms all the time? Mine is only in the late afternoon and lasts all evening. It’s gone when I wake up.

Might be worth checking your blood sugar levels. What do you normally eat for lunch?

Don’t underestimate the exhaustion of pregnancy but the aching etc does sound a bit like the fatigue from another autoimmune-type condition which are often triggered by pregnancy. I assume they still do the glucose challenge ~20 weeks for gestational diabetes? Have they also checked your thyroid?

Nausea has impacted my usually healthy diet but usually something like beans on whole grain toast, avo on toast, cauliflower cheese. Lots of things I just can’t face! I have a nutribullet every day full of greens as I’ve gone off veg. Breakfast is shredded wheat.

I’ve had lots of urine tests which I presume would be the diabetes test you mention..always come back clear.

Pregnant with an IVF baby. The overseas clinic that treated me put me on Levothyroxine despite my UK GP saying my levels are normal. I know levels vary country to country.

How flexible is your employer? Would they allow you to rest for an hour during the afternoon and catch up later? I had to stop working during part of my pregnancies, so I understand how exhausting it can be.Flowers

I’ve started to do this, I rest / take time out whenever I can. Sometimes it’s not possible but I’m usually in bed at 7pm feeling like death warmed up!

I came back to this thread to say thank you to you, I asked to have my B12 and ferritin checked, and my ferritin levels are low, 20. In pregnancy, they should be above 30, and really to be full of energy, they should be much higher, up in the 70s. All my symptoms point to low ferritin levels. So pleased I posted here as the midwives just would not have it that I was deficient in something. I knew something was up. They insisted my dreadful symptoms were down to pregnancy tiredness. Ringing in the ears, heart palpitations, cold feet, dizziness, breathlessness all symptoms of tiredness? Utterly ridiculous. So thank you once again for working out what was wrong with me Flowers
