Considering reducing staffing levels in nurseries? Boris is clutching at straws now

Read on the bbc that the PM is considering reducing staffing levels in childcare settings to reduce living costs? Also reduce the need for MOTs each year.

These safety legislations are in place for a reason. They keep children safe.
To add to that point, nurseries won’t reduce the costs of nursery for parents if they have less staff at all. Managers will be rubbing their hands together at the extra profit because they have to pay less people the minimum wage pittance they already get.

I think it is ridiculous. As you say, it will make it less safe and I would hope that nurseries and preschools would ignore this new guidance and stay at the current ratios.

Also - people need help NOW - this is a long term plan that will make no difference for a couple of years. Plus it won't help those most in need.

All Johnson's proposals are about looking like he is doing something whilst desperately trying not to reinstate the £20/week on UC and finding some other way to give low earners a hand.

People need more money and they need help with their energy bills.

I'm a childminder, why would I look after more children for the same amount of money? Crazy talk.

Anyone who thinks this is a good idea should have a go at looking after 4 under-twos on their own.

Didn’t Liz Truss suggest this a few years back? That each childcare worker in a nursery could look up to up to six toddlers? Er, no.

CurlyBurley · 26/04/2022 21:14

So how will my manager decide which staff members will go? I work in a nursery so now I've got to worry that I might lose my job. Not going to help me with the cost of living crisis is it? I do wish we were more valued, its so depressing.

“look after” I think it was under 2s

Danikm151 · 26/04/2022 22:04

It isn’t going to put money into the pockets of people who need it. 1 adult looking after 4 children is already stretching it enough as it is.
He’s so out of touch with the actual public it hurts

But it’s all fine, he knows what a woman is. That’s apparently the only thing that matters. 🤷‍♀️
