Is there a magic bullet for middle of the night leg cramps?

It's not each night, but it's quite frequent.

I can tell when I'm going to be affected - I tend to get ore cramp twinges in the evening and then I'll suffer two or three bouts that night.

The only thing that seems to alleviare it is a hot shower with it focussed in the cramp. Though sometimes it's almost impossible to get to the shower as it's so painful to walk. It also comes back later in the night.

I'm a bit chunky, in the funting menopause, I think these can't help the issue.

I take manga supplements but haven't noticed any difference really.

Help an old gal out, please.

Impossible to avoid one the camp has kicked in, but they do usually (mainly?) occur when the muscle is at it's shortest. So all tips so stretch it out if possible, are definitely worth noting.

Personally, I spray magnesum oil onto the bottoms of my feet almost every night as a preventative. It can also help with quality of sleep - or maybe that's just because the night isn't broken by a cramp.

If I get it in one or more toes at any time other than during the night, a spray of Mg oil and rubbing it in to the affected area, is like magic!

Put a bar of soap underneath your bedsheets. (You can put the soap down the side of the mattress).
I only used the soap for 2 months and had the cramp on the second night. I have been cramp free for 5 years now.
I hope my post makes sense!

Tonic water!! My OH suffers from horrendous cramps every so often if he's spent alot of time standing that particular day. Someone told us to drink a glass of tonic water. It's vile but literally melts away the cramp for him. If he feels the twinge early in the evening he drinks a can of it before bed and the cramp doesn't come. It's the quinine in it that does the job. We always have a few of the little mini cans in the house. Give it a go!!

I used to get them and I was told that it was a lack of salt so I started having a little. And then pushing my leg against a wall (whilst swearing).

Bananas helped me when I was pregnant.

At antenatal yoga many moons ago the instructor recommended dried apricots.

Yes to tonic water (always a little can by the bed). Also an elastic band round the middle of your foot.
