Car recommendations please

I need to buy a new car as mine is getting old and also no longer suits my requirements. Ideally:

  • mid size
  • elevated driving position
  • 6 gears
  • fairly 'luxurious' - want to treat myself and not just go basic as I have always done in the past - but without costing an arm and a leg!
  • thinking about an automatic

Will be making short trips mostly also a motorway trip (3 hours each way) a few times a month at least so needs to be sturdy and comfortable for that.

Recommendations please! Thanks 😊

Are you talking new-new? And how much space do you need for people/pets and stuff?

I'm thinking Lexus, Volvo or Toyota hybrids at this point.

Budget? Are you looking to PCP/lease or buy?

Do you do the miles and have the parking space that would justify an electric car and make it practical?

Kia Sportage, honestly really nice!

I'm thinking nearly new...

2 x tall early teen DC (and a husband).

No pets. Not too concerned about boot space.

Looking to buy, possibly with a finance option (I get a work car allowance to help fund).

Could have a charger point at home BUT where I travel to longer range doesn't have an easy charger point so would be tricky. Could entertain a hybrid though!

I have a top spec Alfa Romeo Guilietta- 6 gears, automatic and it’s GORGEOUS. Driving her feels like a real treat. I had one for 8 years and the most I ever had to do was change a headlamp bulb, flew through all MOTs etc, eventually traded in for this brand new one just because they were being discontinued and the dealer knew I was after a red one high spec one!

Possibly not a tall enough driving seat for you so I’d look at their Stelvio or Tonale instead!

BMW 220 Active Tourer would suit. I loved mine. It was so comfortable and a really lovely drive. They’re spacious without being massive too. Ours was an 8speed automatic.

I’ve got a VW Tiguan now which is beautiful, too. It’s big though.

Skoda- Kamiq or Karoq. Automatic option. My Kamiq has a DSG gearbox, lots of extras, comfortable, heated seats, heated steering wheel, voice control thingy. I had a Karoq which is a bit bigger and higher up. My back needs a car you can swing your legs in and out of.
