When will gingerism go away?

I'm tired of it. Just heard how a good friend's son has been ridiculed at school and not by another child but an adult. FFS

I meant DS, not DH... and boys' secondary school

It’s looking like my baby will have red hair- he’s absolutely beautiful but I admit when I started to notice it the first thing I thought was ‘I hope he doesn’t get bullied’ 🙁 My mother in law called him a ‘ging-er’ and I told her not to use that term in my house, I was really upset about it and don’t understand why it’s accepted as normal to make comments like this! I really hope it does die out.

The ironic part is, it is an absolutely lovey, gorgeous and stunning hair colour! Ignore the ill comments from jealous passers by and embrace your beautiful envious colour!! Love it! ❤️

My DH has beautiful long red hair, it truly is gorgeous. He's also super pale, with blue eyes. He had a terrible time at school and was picked on terribly for it. He still gets negative comments now and he's almost 37. I was born with very red hair, all my baby photos show me with a shock of red hair but sadly it darkened out to a dark auburn as I got older and is now at almost 40 is a dull reddish brown streaked with grey. I still hit grief for it though. Any red was too red round here in the 90's apparently.

I was convinced DD was going to be red headed like her dad but she's actually got my brothers colouring and has this gorgeous golden blonde hair with just the slightest hint of red. A true strawberry blonde. We only get positive comments about it. My nephews are red headed and as far as I'm aware haven't had any issues. I really do think the problem lies with the adults.

I've just remembered the gang of kids who used to play football a few streets down from us when I was growing up. They used to yell 'Black Beauty' at me. I had black hair and it really stood out because I had very pale skin. My friend's mum said it was a compliment but I reminded her that they were basically comparing me to a horse!! To be honest, it probably doesn't sound that bad, but it made me feel so embarrassed and uncomfortable. They were laughing and cackling and paused their game just to point at me. At least it was only one bunch of kids though. It must be awful having to endure that all the time just because you happen to have ginger hair.

The one time that did make me (inappropriately) laugh was a family funeral
Whole place full of dark olive tanned skin, brown eyes, brown or black hair. Then me. Redhead, pale blue skin and green eyes
I looked like i was at the wrong funeral Grin even my mum was "this is ridiculous, no wonder people think your cousins are mine"

When DD was a toddler I was sitting in a group of mums I didn't know well when 2 of them started to discuss how they were so glad their children weren't ginger. Imagine their faces when my flame haired child came running out of the playpark to join me! I never socialised with them again and the friend we had on common was horrified.
DD is now 14 and still has fabulous red hair. She gets teased in school, told it's kick a ginger day etc. One of her friends told me that a boy asked her (the friend) why she was hanging about with a ginger. She thoroughly berated him.
She's had far more negative comments at secondary school than ever in primary.
It seems to be ok to comment on some people's hair colour when pointing out any other physical difference would be completely unacceptable.

I’ll never forget when we went round to friends for dinner & I had just brightened my warm mid brown hair to a lovely copper shade (I’m naturally auburn anyway, although not so much now I’m older) and during the night the conversation involved kids of our friends and their friends & how some were ‘gingers’ and how they weren’t even ‘pretty gingers’!
