In the olden dayes you could send your godchild a cheque so they could get money without you having to ask for bank details or post actual notes in the post
How do we do it now?

Er, cheques.

breakdown19 · 25/04/2022 10:37

My bank hasn't issued me with a cheque book for at least 5 years

Request one then?

ItsaPeppaPink · 25/04/2022 10:39

Bank draft or postal order? Gift card either?

Aposterhasnoname · 25/04/2022 10:45

They don’t issue cheque books as standard anymore but they can be requested.

AuntieDolly · 25/04/2022 10:49

Does your godchild want a cheque? Will it be a pain to pay in? Why is it a problem asking for their bank details? Are they small children?

Seeline · 25/04/2022 10:50

Depending on the age of the child, something like an Amazon gift card would work.

As someone who has received the odd cheque, they are a nightmare to receive. Around me most banks have closed and instead we have to use the post office who don't accept cheques. Cashing in a cheque means a 2 hour round trip to the closest bank so only worth it for a significant amount of money, otherwise they sit unused for many months until im going to that area. Just ask for bank details

I just pay them in on my banking app. Takes seconds. Clears next day usually.

nearlyspringyay · 25/04/2022 11:01

Neither of my bank (monzo or nationwide) have a pay in option on app.I have to post them to Monzo or go to the branch to pay in at nationwide, the local one has closed so it is a PITA. I have one very lovely aunt who still send my kids cheques made out to me.

Just ask the parents for bank details, if the kids have a savings account if little or do they have their own account and transfer it over. Mine used to have GoHenry so they get gifted money direct to them.

boronia · 25/04/2022 11:04

Gift card instead of a cheque.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/04/2022 11:15

If they're under about 30, they'll probably be thrilled with the novelty value and make a TikTok video about this amazing new concept that they've just discovered.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/04/2022 11:17

If you send them a cheque that is. Most young adults have never seen one and don't know how to fill it in, but given the Tiktokking about budgeting using cash in envelopes, use of typewriters and using a shopping trolley to get your groceries home, it will probably be right up their street.

cockapoopoo · 25/04/2022 12:14

With a cheque. They still exist.

Do you seriously think most under 30s have never seen a cheque? 😂

uncomfortablydumb53 · 25/04/2022 12:38

Depending on the age I'd pay money by bank transfer to their account( or parents) via online banking
You can still request a cheque book in a bank branch( if there are any!)

Chica10 · 25/04/2022 12:41

Why don’t you just give them money?

Snozzlemaid · 25/04/2022 12:50

My two find it a pain if they get a cheque or cash.
Although cheques can now be pain in via banking app so not so bad now.
But they don't use cash so they usually give it to me and I transfer the money online.
They'd much rather get a bank transfer.

breakdown19 · 25/04/2022 13:04

I don't want to ask for bank details as want it to be a surprise / want to give money not gift card as contribution towards driving lessons
Don't want to send cash as easy for it to be stolen

I will send a card and tell them to text me their bank details to receive their gift
