Over-glasses sun glasses

Does anyone have any experience of these?

I had never heard of these till recently. I have a strong prescription, so these would seem like a possible solution. The only other thing I can think of is getting prescription sunglasses made.

All thoughts welcome 😎

I have prescription sunglasses. Love them. Only thing is shopping, I have to use normal glasses indoors and stick the sunglasses on my head. Swapping back and forth can get old.
Dd was asking about getting big sunglasses to put over her glasses, no idea if it's something we could find somewhere. Have you seen any big enough?

The flip ones? I don’t think they ever look good.

You could have prescription sunglasses or have transitions/light reactive type lenses put in next time. They are much better than they used to be, faster to react to light changes, clearer in ‘normal glasses mode’ (used to have a dingy tint at all times they don’t now) and come in a few colours to suit your frame or needs (eg you’d prob want brown lenses in tortoiseshell frames and grey lenses in black frames).

depending on your prescription strength, the sunglasses that transition won't fully transition to clear and will always have a tint in them.
You only have two real options
either the clip on/flip up ones, which are not to bad.
or splash out on prescription sunglasses and change between the two.

If your eyes are both the same prescription, you can buy sunglasses with prescriptions lenses online for under a tenner.

Cobolt do sunglasses that fit fully over normal glasses. They are great, though not stylish.

colouringfoxes · 23/04/2022 17:52

I have ones that change from tinted to clear. They go clear inside as far as I can tell, although I don't need them for close up stuff like reading or typing. I like them.

you can also get clip on additions that are magnetic and hold onto the base pair.

Hubcapdiamondstarhalo · 23/04/2022 17:54

I've been using them for years, have a few pairs in handy places. I also have prescription ones, but mostly use the others. The overglasses are handiest when driving as I can whip them on quickly as needed without the momentary risk of having to change over glasses. I got them quite cheaply on Amazon.

I have some clip-on polaroids. Very clear vision and they cut out UV. £20 from Boots.

Family says I look like Ozzy Osbourne which is obviously outrageous as I look like Alice Cooper.

I love my prescription sunglasses but they are a pain for sunny / cloudy days where it's bright and dark in quick succession. I'm constantly swapping over or look like a Wally with sunnies on in the supermarket if I've forgotten my normal pair.

Just ordered some transitions which switch to gold mirror sunglasses. I'm quite light sensitive so I'm looking forward to seeing how good they are.

Crackersnack · 23/04/2022 17:58

'Fitovers' are the ones that look like oversized sunglasses and are designed to sit over your regular glasses. No flip up or anything. I've used them and they are good for blocking the sun if you get the right size, but as you'd expect also pretty clunky (and frankly not very stylish, which I care more about than I should!). Very good to keep in the car to deal with driving glare though.

For day to day my preference is to uae prescription sunnies - I use the specsavers 2for 1 offer to get regular glasses and prescription sunglasses. You do have to pay a bit more but I have a high prescription and for me it is much more comfortable wearing only one pair of glasses at a time rather than 2.

Spottybutterfly · 23/04/2022 17:59

I don't know if the clip on one's have improved in the last 25 years but my dad used to use them. But the clip scratches the lenses. He has also had wrap around ones but they touched the front of the lenses and scratched them.

Curlygirl06 · 23/04/2022 18:06

I bought an ordinary pair in Primark to experiment with and wore them over my varifocals , worked really well.

Tiree1965 · 23/04/2022 18:10

I get new ones every time I get new specs. They come from the opticians, in all shapes and sizes, and have a hook on each ‘corner’ so clip snuggly over my frames. Can be added and removed with one hand so great when driving. Wouldn’t be without them.

Get prescription glasses with a magnetic sun clip! Life changing.

Ooh lots of things to look into Smile I used to use clip-ons but hated them (forgot to put this in OP). But worth considering, alongside everything else.

Many thanks to you all BrewBrew
