Washing machine tripping electric

At least, I think it's that because everything else was unplugged. Weird though, because although plugged in, it's not been on. It did freeze the other day and had to switch it off and on at the plug to reset it.

I'm going to have to buy a new one, aren't I? Bollocks.

i dont think a new one is the first step?
have you had it long?

AchillesPoirot · 23/04/2022 11:15

I'd change the fuse in the plug first and if that didn't work I'd get a local repair shop out to look at it before I bought a new one

Mabelface · 23/04/2022 11:18

It's 7 years old, so out of warranty. Good call about changing the fuse. I'll grab some this afternoon and try that.

Had a chat at my local Euronics shop with their expert. I need a new machine. 😩

When my washing machine started tripping the electrics a nice man came in, changed the heating element I think, and had it working again in about 20 minutes.

I would contact your local repair man and ask his opinion, then if he thinks it is fixable, get them to come out and look at it.

Last time mine went wrong it was fixed for around a 1/3 of the cost of a new one and is still going 5 years later.

AchillesPoirot · 23/04/2022 16:05

Of course the washing machine shop are going to tell you you need a new one !!

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 23/04/2022 16:10

Yeah something inside has failed and needs replacing, as it’s causing the breaker to trip. Or the plug. Def try and get it fixed first.

PurpleToeNail · 23/04/2022 16:46

My first thought wouldn't be the machine itself, it'd be the electrics. When mine failed recently, the electrician found a mouse had chewed through the wire.

When this happened to us , local repair man came, changed the heating element . Worked immediately afterwards .

SpikyHairy · 23/04/2022 17:04

Heating element as others have said, but straightforward to do yourself, you don't need special tools. I got a new one for less than £30 and only takes a few minutes to replace. Plenty of YouTube videos to show you how.

Mine did this when I had the washing machine and tumbler going at the same time, on a double socket. Have to plug them in separate sockets now.
