Shall I repair the roof or replace the whole shed?

I should have handled it much earlier instead of leaving it to deteriorate to how it is now...

Anyway, there are damp patches covering nearly the half of the ceiling on one side. On the other side, the roof board slipped due to the side supporting bar came halfway off on the edge. Now there's a gap in the middle of the ceiling (about a inch) where you could see the sky. 😰

So obviously the felts need to be replaced and the roof board needs to be fixed.

I couldn't find many recommended tradesmen to ask for quote. So far only got one guy who quoted £580 for replacing the roof boards which will be in 12mm osb which will need 4-5 of and replacing the felt with a high grade shed felt with lap seals and adhesives.

DH had a look on the cost of new shed just as a benchmark. It seems to purchase and install a new shed of similar size only costs about £1.2k. Is it fair to compare this cost of £600 for repair a roof with buying a new one?

Shall we better off replace the whole shed or repair it? I think the shed is still in a ok condition in general. But It's been 10 years since we bought the house. So the shed is certainly +10 years old.

We live in London area.

How big is your shed?! Those quotes are huge.

DH bought sheets of wood and roofing felt and did our himself. If your DH isn’t handy this is something that a local handyman should be able to do.
what kind of tradesmen did you get quotes off?

I was quoted £900 to replace a large roof shed, so just pulled it down and bought new, saving about £400. I had a big shed full of shite, though, and replaced with something smaller that fit inside the footprint of the previous shed. I feel happy with that decision.

@AccommodatingAlice , Thanks. The size is abour 12x8. I got the quote from a guy who's main business is shed repair, garden room and decking (found him online). Good idea to try handyman. But then the trick is to find a reliable handyman. I had one before until he's ambition grew to carrying out house extension...

@thecoffeewasthething , Thank you. You comments about the footprint made us think maybe we can build the new shed around the stuff inside without having to empty the whole thing. Not sure if it's feasible though. But on the other hand, due to the post-pandemic supply chain issue, the prices for timber products increased dramatically. I suspect we'd be looking at + £1.5k to dismantle the old one and install a new one of similar size.
