Healthy breakfasts?

Am hoping people can share ideas with me!

I gave up processed food over Lent and trying to keep it up now. Breakfast is the hardest meal as so many typical breakfast foods are things like baked goods, cereal etc.

I have been eating eggs with spinach quite a lot, and sometimes fruit and whole nuts or seeds. But getting a bit bored and wondering if anyone else has ideas for breakfasts involving healthy whole foods?
Thanks for any tips!

Not sure how specific you are on “processed” - would you consider any of the following?

Smoked salmon and avocado
Smoked salmon and eggs
Porridge (made with actual oats and water/milk, not the packet stuff)
Berries and Greek yogurt

I’ve been wanting to ask similar but more because I’ve given up sugar and EVERYTHING has bloody sugar in it.

i can’t face the thought of faffing around with eggs first thing in the morning. I’m really struggling.

Overnight oats
Homemade granola
Greek yoghurt and fruit
Omelette
Kippers

Eggs, spinach, mushrooms tomatoes as you are already doing.

My favourite at the moment is proper Greek yoghurt (not Greek style), mixed berries and chopped nuts.

I soak 40g of oats with 100g of almond milk and leave overnight in the fridge with a lid on. In the morning I top with a bit of honey then put blueberries, strawberries and raspberries on. It's really lovely and filling.

I tend to mix full fat Greek yoghurt with oats and grated apple.

rainallnight I don’t know if by giving up sugar you also need no processed carbs. If so, there’s a pressure cooker recipe I use that’s is really nice and filling. It’s made of ground almonds, coconut milk, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and a bit of spice (cinnamon, ginger). You can add grated apple too if you eat it. It’s the consistency of porridge.

if you want something crunchier, perhaps toast the nuts and seeds in the oven, and then eat like it’s granola, with full fat yoghurt & chia seeds.

Can’t you just eat a twist on what you’d eat for lunch?
I’m not a breakfast eater but at times I’ve forced myself to eat it however I can’t stand most typical ‘breakfast foods’ so I’d just eat what I’d eat for lunch - tomato salad or boiled eggs with asparagus for dipping.
Really takes only minutes but kickstarts the metabolism. Generally though, eating before 11 makes me feel a bit queasy 🤔 so I go without. I think I’d do a lot better if I ate breakfast!!

We make pancakes a lot, doesn’t take us long as lazy about measuring and we just guess. Sometimes we whizz OST’s in the blender to make oat ones which are delicious too.
we have then with xylitol and lemon, xylitol is great instead of sugar (has good health properties too, ) or cinnamon which is less expensive

TargusEasting · 22/04/2022 21:35

I will throw you a wildcard and ask you to try no breakfast.

Just see if you really need it. Especially if it is the stuff your body doesn't like. Many people do not eat breakfast. Joanna Lumley does not and neither do I, but I got that tip from her and it works.

Rainallnight · 22/04/2022 22:23

That sounds lovely @NetCurtAnne! No pressure cooker but worth looking into. I’m just trying to kick added sugar - so not all carbs but obvious things like chocolate and hidden sugar in stuff like breakfast cereal.
