Complaint to police?

Has anyone ever made a complaint to the police?
A particular police person made a mistake which has forever changed the outcome of what we have had to and are going through.
But if I make a complaint basically it's still not going to change the outcome of what we're going through. Ie we could have taken it to court but we can't because the officer put a different outcome in which he shouldn't have done. This can't be undone.
So is it worth making a complaint?

Yes definitely. That person could keep doing the same thing and cause misery for others

It depends on whether the officer has deliberately noted something incorrectly to mislead or change the course of the investigation. It could be misconduct.

If you’re in the uk, it’s not your decision as to whether something goes to court, that’s for the CPS to decide. You just decide whether to make a complaint of a crime.

If there has been dishonesty on the part of the officer, or misconduct, there could be sanctions against the officer. If it was done in error, then there is clearly learning to be done. Personally I would contact the professional standards department and discuss it with them. What has happened could be part of a pattern, so could probably do to be brought to their attention.

Yes I know it's up to CPS but I also know it would have gone to court had this first officer not done the wrong thing. This has been confirmed to me it's not just me saying it.

I'm not sure if this person did it deliberately or it was an honest mistake but it should have had a different outcome.

Thank you for your reply

OP, even if it was a genuine mistake, making a complaint could change training requirements, meaning it won't happen again. Even if that doesn't help you (I hope it does) it will definitely benefit others who may be in your situation in the future.

Yes perhaps you're right

Make a complaint, it will be investigated and go on that officers record, maybe in the future others will benefit or he will be disciplined.
