How ill would you have to be to cancel?

I have a long planned outing tomorrow, with one friend, so if I drop out I guess they won't go either. Cost, if it matters, c. £60 each, non refundable.

I've been really looking forward to it, but have been horribly ill for a few days, although I have been able to get out of bed today, so starting to improve. Currently, it all seems like far too much hard work and I'd rather stay at home, even though this is a one off opportunity to do something I'd really like to do. I need to make a decision tonight really because we'll be leaving at 7am.

There's quite a bit of travelling involved and I'll be able to sleep that bit if necessary. It's not a particularly active day, but a long one.

Covid tests all negative.

Would you let friend down or still go? FWIW, I'm sure friend would be very disappointed, but they'd be understanding about it.

On the basis you’re feeling a bit better today and you can sleep during the travel I would go.
if you don’t go I would refund my friend their money out of pocket.

ClemDanFango · 22/04/2022 19:37

Can you talk to them about it? Are they likely to still want to go if they could catch whatever you’ve got?

Ferntastical · 22/04/2022 19:45

For me it would be influenced by what I was planning on Sunday.

If I had the chance to just rest up, then I'd stick to my plans, push on through, reassured by the knowledge that I could crash into bed when I got back tomorrow evening and sleeeep for more than a day.

If I didn't go and that caused my friend to cancell too then I agree with pp, I'd refund them their £60 to make up for it.

Well, as it stands I'm meeting friends for a long run at 8:30 Sunday....but I probably won't do that whether I go tomorrow or not, which would leave me with no plans except catching up on some of the chores that have been neglected this week.

Yes, I think they'd be kind if I said I couldn't go, but they want to go enough that they'd take their chances.

Can your friend not invite someone else to take your place?

katiejemima · 22/04/2022 20:04

I would go. I hate letting people down. You never know how much someone needs that day out or has been looking forward to it. I would just blitz the nurofen and paste a big smile on. No-one can see how you're feeling inside, and it won't last forever.

Actually no, not legally anyway. The tickets are non transferable.

I would be honest, and offer them your ticket for nothing in the hope they can find someone to go with them.

Tickledtrout · 22/04/2022 20:09

If I was even thinking I could manage a long run on Sunday morning then I think I'd steel myself, drug up, sleep on the journey and go for it tomorrow. Sounds like you're on the up.

No covid, no D&V, nothing knowingly infectious that I could pass on to them, no fever, I would go. Covid, D &/or V, something knowingly infectious or a high fever absolutely not.

It's a cold/fluey thing. It's highly likely to be contagious, most short term illnesses are, aren't they?

If you were my friend, I’d be more concerned about your well-being, honestly.
Depending on the trip, I would probably still go if you didn’t feel up to it.
