Traveling to Disneyland Paris via Eurostar - go direct, or go via Paris?

I'm booking Eurostar tickets to get to Disneyland Paris, and I know there is the option to go direct from London St Pancras to Disneyland Paris/Marne-la-Vallée, or to go from St Pancras to Paris, and then get the train from Paris to Disneyland Paris.

It seems that going via Paris will be a lot cheaper, but not sure if I'm missing something?

Has anyone here travelled to Disneyland Paris via Eurostar and, if so, did you go direct or via Paris?

Thank you

If you transfer in Paris will that be onto a local train?

That could explain why it's cheaper, but it's probably fine and easy to do, I'd say you're not missing anything.

Not quite the same thing, but we went to Paris not so long ago and went to Versailles on the train. We just bought tickets from the machine (English instructions available, about 7 euro return) and got on the next train - Disney looks like an easy direct journey on the RER A (red) line and the website and app is helpful in terms of which platform, which train, where it's going and that sort of thing.

Will you be spending time in Paris itself? I loved just wandering around but I can appreciate it might not be so interesting to DC although there were some good parks with play equipment. Plus it was so easy to get around on the RER lines, underground and trams.

I grew up in Paris and was a student there so know the metro system well. It's a right faff to change.

You need to come into Gare du Nord, change on the underground down to châtelet Les Halles (one of the busiest stations in the world, >250 shops I believe within it, I cannot underestimate how walking from one platform to the next is half an hour without kids and luggage in tow) and then out to Marne la vallée from there (I think about 45 mins from memory)

It's the equivalent of coming into London in st Pancras, trailing all kids and luggage down to the underground, for a metro journey of probably only 10-15 mins, but for you to then come out at a station the size of an airport for you to cross to get the train to the Disneyland Paris station and then 45 mins from there

I wouldn't do it! And taxis around Gare du Nord would cost a fortune too, plus you need to haul all your luggage down to the correct concourse at châtelet - that isn't particularly viable

I would go direct every time.

Changing at Paris is hard work as it’s not signposted. We are fluent in French but still found it difficult to get across. We always go direct, it’s so easy and relaxing. You can also do the Disney express so you drop your cases at the station, pick up your park tickets and can go straight to the park whilst they check in for you!

I have lived in Paris and speak fluent French. We went via Paris because there were more trains and we were also combining Disney with a couple of days in the city. However it was horrid changing. Very crowded, pickpockets barging us etc etc. I would not do it again.

From memory the direct trains door to door trains are not that frequent. Certainly out of season.

We did a 4pm ish train to Lille one year when DD had an inset day and then got a train to Marne/Disney from there.

Might save you changing in Paris?

The Eurostar direct to Disneyland is SO convenient - like you can see the gates almost from the station.

Going into Paris, then changing - depends if you can be arsed with kid(s). I definitely recommend direct to Disney - unless your accomodation is booked nearer the Paris train station.

Limited departures through to Disneyland Paris, so if that's OK with you, then do that.

ItsDisneyBitch · 22/04/2022 22:16

I just did it and it was really easy, would definitely go via Paris again when I priced it up was £300 cheaper!

Hey
You've probably booked by now. What did you go for in the end?
I booked direct to DLP on the way there and back from gare du nord. It was crazy expensive to come back on the friday(last one of summer holidays) so instead I booked one the next day from garw du and then booked a ibis hotel in Paris
