Tonsil stones

does anyone know the best way to prevent tonsil stones?

I have randomly started getting them on one of my tonsils as there’s a hole in there from a bad bout of tonsillitis years ago… although I find it strange (and annoying) they’re only starting to happen now?!

has anyone had their tonsils lasered? I can’t keep poking at them with a cotton bud every couple of weeks 😓

Gargling with medicated mouthwash helped get rid of mine (corsodyl- although it does stain your teeth, but this can be removed by a hygienist).

Did that rid of them and then they didn’t come back? Worth a try!

Also sorry, was it the alcohol free corsodyl or the original?

Curasept is similar to Corsodyl, but doesn’t stain teeth.
Not easy to find in shops though - we order online. It’s more expensive than Corsdyl, too.

Any corsodyl will do it. They all have the same active ingredient. I tried Curasept (from Amazon) and although it’s supposed to have the same active ingredient as the corsodyl I didn’t find it as good- not sure why! But yes worth a go. I used it for quite a while; about 3 weeks daily I think and then they just seemed to stop. Might have been coincidence!

I started using Colgate mouthwash morning and night for the same reason and haven’t had them since starting that.

Tonsil 'stones' are caused by having large 'pits' in your tonsils that collect debris.

You can't stop them unless you have your tonsils removed.

I just poke my tonsils with a clean finger every so often and they pop out. I know when they are there as I get a bad taste in my mouth.

@Cigal Hi, did you get your tonsils removed or did the stones go away on their own? X

Agree with @Thesefeetaremadeforwalking

OP something I’ve found verybuseful is the squirty water ‘syringe’ you can het on Amazon. Basically instead of stabbing around with a cotton bud, you just poke the syringe thingy around the tonsil and spray water. Much easier and works better.

I have a feeling they are immune related. I suffer badly with them, and always have. I've even made a few posts on here asking for help and advice with them.

I've tried absolutely everything over the years to rid myself of them with no luck. Nhs won't remove my tonsils so I need to squeeze them out every week. 🤢

Until recently, I ended up on an immune suppressor due to a medical issue and the full time I've been on it, I haven't had one tonsil stone. That's been almost 2 years without any and I don't believe it's a coincidence.
