Rehousing elderly relatives

My 88 yo Grandmother is about to have her leg amputated above knee. She lives in a second floor flat in Edinburgh and will not be able to stay so we will have to sell her home. It is just my Mum and I that live close by. My Grandmother is deemed able to make decisions, although she is VERY far removed from who I know and love and although objectively understands what is happening, we don't believe she can fully grasp that she Will never walk again, never be able to tend to her allotment which has been the love of her life. Anyway, this means we are not allowed to attend MDT meetings. Grandmother is not eating and has been on IV antibiotics for 2 weeks and previously 4 rounds of antibiotics in last 5 months.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I guess I'm looking for clarity about what we can do...I've read sheltered housing is better to rent as can be difficult to sell once the person dies.

My Mother and I both work full time and feel incredibly stressed. We don't know who to talk to. My Grandmother cannot rely information well and we feel a bit pushed aside whilst it is up to us to arrange the flat and future housing.

Thank you anyone who has any input.

Hi @OnTheGoAlways I'm so sorry to read about your stressful situation with your grandmother. A few days ago, I posted on the elderly parents section about my mum who had her lower leg amputated. I got some amazing replies, so I'm sure you'll get some very knowledge people along soon.

If your grandmother is deemed to be able to make decisions, what decisions has she made? Who has assessed her capacity and decided she can make decisions? Have you been informed of any plan for her discharge?

My grandmother seems to want her leg amputated. There was an option to try plasty again under GA but we have been told through a nurse that that now wasn't written down...I'm not sure what that means.

We've told my Grandmother she needs to decide if she'd like to stay in Edinburgh or move to midlothian /borders. She agrees but then goes to sleep, takes over an hour to ear Kellogs breakfast bar thing. This is what we mean by objectively my Grandmother understands, but we don't believe she truly grasps what is happening. And she is terrible at relaying information, apparently the OT came today and we don't know what was said.
