A dressing gown?

HeddaGarbled · 20/04/2022 15:01

Back in the 60s/70s, my mum used to make us all swimming ponchos by sewing a towel into a cylinder and sewing a draw-string into one end 😃

I saw Primark versions in the kids section. Not sure if they made adult ones.

There are loads google dry robe dupes or fakes. As an open water swimmer the £160 is totally worth it!

Whatsthestoryboringglory · 20/04/2022 15:11

If you put dry robe in to Amazon search, it’ll bring up some of the cheaper competitors. Still probably looking at 70-80 quid though.

rapanuiclothing.com/product/women-s-organic-cotton-surf-towel/ £40 and comes with a feel good factor.

Far better than being a dry robe wanker.. (joke!!!)) www.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/25/shivering-dublin-bay-swimmers-slighted-for-fancy-robes

There are many other similar makes of changing robes on the market these days. I have a Frostfire Moonwrap, which can be found for £70-£90ish. I use it for warming up and changing after sea swims all year round, and it is v similar in design to my swimming friends' Dryrobes (and just as good). Or the poncho things such as the Rapanui posted above are great for warmer weather.

I've got a microfiber poncho type one and I've used it in cold weather, dry off quickly and use a hot water bottle! It's easy to change under and doesn't take up much room. Was about £30 on amazon.

I'd still love a dry robe, but they are big and expensive.

Charlie McLeod, passenger, Finisterre, red, gorilla. Wiggle seem to have a dhb one on sale and mountain warehouse have started doing some. None are cheap, but I do love mine. It's got me warm and toasty after some very cold swims!

Although I have a towelling robe I chuck on to change, and then put my dryrobe (not the actual dryrobe brand) on after. The fleecey insides makes the robes a bit unpleasant to change in when you're wet (in my opinion)

Thank you off to look at some options

I can’t justify £160 no matter how much I want one

Was talking to a friend about this the other day! We agreed you could probably get the same effect with a cheapo towelling dressing gown with a waterproof cagoule layered over the top! Not tried it, mind, but can’t see how it’d be any less effective…
