Hi. Has anyones children experienced a sore belly after taking ovex for threadworms? My 8 year old had treatment last weds after complaining of a sore bum for a few nights. By sat night he had a really sore belly and started with diarrhoea on Sunday. I had him at out of hours and later A&E as we were worried it might have been appendicitis but they said it wasn't. He is still complaining of a sore belly off and on now although the diarrhoea has stopped. Anyone else experienced this?? TIA.

The bowel can get a bit stroppy yes. It passes. It also might just be a random bug that is a coincidence. You'll know more after the second dose.

I'm scared to do a second dose now!! The pharmacist said we only needed if still symptoms.

If you don't do the second dose, the eggs that will hatch in the next week will be able to reach maturity and you'll end up back at square one. The medication works by making sure the worms starve to death. It doesn't kill them.

It's up to you though. The cycle only lasts 6 weeks. Scruplious hygiene and putting up with it they'll go on their own. As long as no more eggs are ingested.

My initial plan was to take the second dose regardless of whether there was symptoms or not for that reason. I have been washing and cleaning like mad but I imagine it is hard to get every single egg!

It's more washing bottom immediately on waking to wash the newly laid eggs away. Lots of hand washing and nail scrubbing. Ironing knicker gussets kill eggs. The eggs are tough and stick to everything and float in house dust (it's the glue that causes the intense itching). If you have the stomach for it you can break the cycle naturally if you don't want to take the meds.

Also a pack of baby wipes and a carrier bag took up to bed to use through the night can make you feel more comfortable if there's itching.

Yes I did the bottom washing in the morning until the worms were dead. I'm hoovering and wiping surfaces everyday to remove anything that is travelling in dust.
