Wiltshire Farm Foods

Do you have to be elderly to have these - I quite fancy never cooking again and having these delivered instead? Grin

I’m 55.

No but they are seriously vile in my experience.

PuppyMonkey · 19/04/2022 11:12

Oh, really? Bugger. Is there somewhere doing the same thing but nice?

Not Gousto etc, you have to do cooking with those don't you? Grin

Cook!
Posh frozen ready meals.
Some towns have shops or they are in 'naice' garden centres.

My elderly father had Wiltshire foods, admittedly years ago, and they were not that good.

M and S do a good range of reassurance meals too

Justlovedogs · 19/04/2022 11:51

Don't know about vile. My late DM had them for many years. Used to add extra veg here & there and was selective about which ones she had. I think they're something you need to try rather than take someone else's word for.

Peckhampalace · 19/04/2022 11:57

Tested Parsley Box before suggesting to a relative. Were small but ok and didn't need to be in fridge/freezer. Still not sure how they stayed fresh though.

MyDcAreMarvel · 19/04/2022 12:00

M and S would be much better, the flavours are bland aimed at elderly people.

Pyri · 19/04/2022 12:02

You could try Cook which are pretty decent ready meals?

PuppyMonkey · 19/04/2022 12:03

Oh my, Cook! Looks lovely but it’s a bit pricey. Shock

To be honest, if all you want is not to cook, I would just order ready meals from any supermarket - you can get them delivered, they’re just as easy to cook as Wiltshire Farm Foods or Oakhouse meals and probably nicer quality and cheaper with a wider range available.

Cook dishes are lovely and a main course is not much more expensive than supermarket luxury range meals but, with a lot of them, you need to do veg & potatoes separately.

PuppyMonkey · 19/04/2022 12:59

Yep, I suppose I would if it were just me - the family might complain though.Confused

M&S do decent meals, just add extra veg on the side!

ButtockUp · 19/04/2022 13:13

My elderly mum used to have WFF but she got fed up with the potatoes being too chewy and tricky to cut.
She also found that they usually all had a similar taste as well as the meat being very thin and chewy.
I'd look at supermarket ready meals.
Tesco have whole meals in their freezer section.

UpYourBumHun · 19/04/2022 13:17

If you don't want to cook have a look at Iceland ready meals, their luxury range is seriously very good
I cook from scratch and I'm very fussy about food
They deliver too

BarbaraofSeville · 19/04/2022 13:24

If you're 55 and live with 'the family' chances are there's at least two other people in the house capable of cooking.

Are they all doing their share?

As well as normal ready meals, you and they can just make really easy things, use prepared veg or batch cook. It's easier if you're not on a particularly strict budget, because usually good quality ready meals or easy to cook things like fish and prepared veg that you can just bake in paper are more expensive. ALthough there's always the fallback of omelettes or ready made soup.

But definitely don't make big elaborate meals if you're the only one cooking.

theleafandnotthetree · 19/04/2022 13:26

God it all sounds very grim, think I'd rather have a boiled egg and toast....or is that too much cooking? 🤔. I'm just imagining sitting with a meal on my lap in a housecoat on one of those chairs that can bring you to standing position with a smell of musty clothes in the air and a swirly carpet on the floor.

PuppyMonkey · 19/04/2022 13:40

Egg on toast would suit me fine.

Yes there are others in house who will cook, but we all hate cooking equally. Grin

I had KBK meals at the start of the year. Too busy to cook (baby twins) and gusto etc didn’t help with that. They often have special offers on, otherwise are too pricey.

Grantanow · 19/04/2022 13:48

We used them for 3 weeks while our kitchen was out of use and we had a microwave to heat them up. We found them rather so-so and a bit boring so never went back to them.

You have too much time on your hands if you could think all of that Grin

Haven't been to Iceland for ages but just looking at their website now...

I live in sheltered accommodation and I noticed someone's ready meal left out in the corridor. I looked on the ingredients list for the cottage pie and it included sugar and dextrose. It wasn't Wiltshire Farm Foods.

I have read that they only put dextrose in instead of sugar because then both sugar and dextrose come further down the list of ingredients. Ingredients are listed in order of quantity. Even though sugar does the same job as dextrose and sugar is cheaper they can make it seem healthier.

I'm sure the manufacturer will say that it's a low sugar product but the point is that cottage pie should be a no sugar product. If you eat low sugar products throughout the day you end up eating a lot of sugar. This will have an effect on rates of type two diabetes.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 19/04/2022 14:04

I've had the same thought myself OP but definitely not Wiltshire foods, I only cook for myself and I hate cooking. The first thing I'd do if I was richer would be to order all of my food in. Calorie counted.

Daphnedot · 19/04/2022 14:06

Just go to m&s and stock up the freezer

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 19/04/2022 14:06

Sometimes I buy a box of Exante for one month on special offer and that's only £100 for the month plus guaranteed a stone off.

Celendine · 19/04/2022 14:10

I have had them post operation, they were OK...better than hospital food anyway 🤣
