Kittens first night home - where does she sleep?

HI all
Our kitten comes home tomorrow evening. We had hoped to bring her home in the morning to give her the day to get used to things but the breeder is not home until evening so she won't get home until 7.30/8pm.
I don't really want to start a habit of her sleeping in our room in case any allergies develop but also cautious of leaving her alone on the first night.
What did others do?

@MissM2912 I was going to say that, but then thought maybe I am a very soft cat-slave.

My cat sleeps under the duvet with me and doesn't think twice about sticking a claw into me if she deems that she has insufficient space.

We took her up to bed with us from the start, taking her litter tray too for the first few nights. She's never, ever had a litter tray accident. She was very confident right from the first moment- didn't hide at all. She would have been dismayed to be kept in a side room for a few weeks, she has always followed us everywhere like a little dog. She even sits in the sink and watches me while I shower Hmm. I can see that maybe a shy kitten could need a quiet start though.

@Ohdoleavemealone sorry I can see this is a zombie thread but I was wondering what happened with your kitten and sleeping arrangements? We are getting one in a few weeks time and debating the same thing.

We have 2 now and shut them downstairs at night. Otherwise they wake me at 3am biting my toes!

Any that were crying, I've put on my pillow. A shy kitten might prefer to sleep alone (doesn't mean they won't become a bedfellow later on).

I slept downstairs with my new kitten for a week. Then he was fine by himself. It was the sweetest thing, how relieved he was to have a companion. Piteous miaowing replacing by delighted purring and slept happily all night snuggled up to me.
Next kitten (five years later) was a pair, who kept each other company so I didn't need to sleep downstairs!
Our cats have never been allowed in our bedrooms at night...occasionally sneak up in the day but downstairs is full of cosy places so no need...

Our very first kitten 30 years ago we let him settle himself for the first week on advice from (strict ruthless) people, and I bitterly regretted it, lots of miaowing until the kitten gave up on night four, hence trying a different tactic with second cat. It's the equivalent of controlled crying for babies, yes it works but I think it is damaging and there are other ways to get a kitten or baby used to sleeping alone.

One tip, don't spend loads on a bed, they'll sleep wherever they chose in the end. Our first two kittens were quite happy with a cardbox box (hole cut in front) and an old towel underneath - it was a safe and secure place for a potentially nervous cat (you never know how they'll be the first couple of days). If you think she could get into too much trouble the first few days, can you put somewhere cosy for her to sleep in the hall downstairs.

By the way, it's compulsory on MN to post a photo of your new baby when you have her, as a way of thanking us!
